But we managed to get through that year,
and the next year you moved down the street from me,
you bought me a puppy, (NAME), for my birthday,
and truly, that was the best gift there ever will be.

And did you know that when you left home,
well, I cried me a river for some days,
it felt like I was all alone, center stage,
it felt like I was starring in one of those tragic plays.

And you're such a perfect gent, a true romantic,
your little presents always give me a such lift,
and you've told me that even when we're married,
you said that you'll still make a point of giving me a gift.

Because you took me home and I never left,
I'll never forget when you took me to meet your family,
you told them you were going to propose,
and they in turn, of course, then told me.

Well, I think "you", are indeed, my real gift,

Not too long after that, I lost my home,
and I ended up sleeping fitfully, in my car,
and then one day, you took the keys from me,
and ever since, I've really traveled far.

We went to college in (PLACE) and you quickly followed,
and that's where you decided you no longer wished to roam,
you're a great grandfather, you love everyone immensely,
but you do let your grandkids take over your home.

We'll never forget (NAME) and (NAME) boxing in the backyard,
that was the same backyard where I helped to rake the leaves,
we went shopping and then onto lunch for my birthday,
these are the moments for which my heart grieves.

You lead at home as well as in the business,
and that leadership has always brightly shone,
so just know that I love you very much,
and our great times together are not done and gone.

You are the greatest gift on earth,
in fact, a gift from God above,
and now I know the meaning of marriage,

I remember your beautiful speech and the chocolates,

you once bought me a very purple (you called it Mauve) dress,
I was about 5 years old (and of that dress, I never grew tired).

You gave me the courage to follow in your steps,
and at the end of day, that?s the greatest gift of all,
as Dad, because of you I walk taller,
in fact, I feel like I?m ten feel tall!

We also know that you like your shopping,
although it can be difficult to find the right dress,
but we also know that persistence always pays off,
and that's why you've filled our lives with such happiness.
