So I think we'll finish by saying Happy 60th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Dad, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to staying a big kid, for evermore.
But we managed to get through that year,
and the next year you moved down the street from me,
you bought me a puppy, (NAME), for my birthday,
and truly, that was the best gift there ever will be.
I remember the time she woke me up by yelling,
she knew that a lay in bed was something that I would like,
she was screaming at me to get my stuff off the porch,
but when I got there, there was my brand new birthday bike.
Because she and Grandpa drove all night across the desert,
just to get to grandparents day at the kid's school,
they ended up with their pictures in the newspaper,
(and never did two desert duelers ever look so cool!)
I finally got up enough courage one day to ask you,
I left a note on your windscreen asking to give me a call,
don't forget, this was a very shy kid doing the asking,
so I admit, the second sentence was written rather small.
I also wanted to say "Happy Birthday",
but there's a few other words that need to be said,
because I know I'm a hot tempered guy,
and some times my tongue gets easily led.
You make them wild by letting them do just what they want,
but we know you're just a big kid, there in your heart,
and we just wanted to say "we love you",
but in truth, we didn't know where to start.
I was a bagger, you were a cashier,
I would always joke around and you always loved that,
we'd find excuses to do "special jobs" around each other,
you were outgoing, I was the shy kid (a matter of fact).
It's just our way of saying "Happy 60th Birthday",
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Mom, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to cruising through life, for evermore.
She also taught me how to shop for and cook spaghetti and meatballs,
she took me to the Feather Club for dinner and dancing on my birthday,
she always knew what you needed and it was often very simple,
and that one line leaves so much left to say:
When I was a kid, I was scared of that curtain rod,
because with it, she'd chase me out from under the bed,
and every year, she'd retell the story of my birth,
so now, everybody has heard that tale (so it's been said).
One of four children in an Italian family,
Lenny (the little kid) soon grew up and roared,
he started the business we all work for,
(but it's only because of us that it's really soared).
(NAME) was my 18th birthday present from his room-mate,
on the card, it said "too big to wrap, but I know you'll love him",
and the following day I told my parents I would marry (NAME),
and now I can say, 39 glorious years later, that was no teenage whim.
We'll never forget (NAME) and (NAME) boxing in the backyard,
that was the same backyard where I helped to rake the leaves,
we went shopping and then onto lunch for my birthday,
these are the moments for which my heart grieves.
And I just wanted to say Happy 60th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, (NAME), you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.
And I also wanted to Happy 80th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, (NAME), grandmother, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to at least another eighty more!
I'd also like to say Happy 75th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, <NAME>, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.
And we know you just wanted to go to Las Vegas,
you didn't really want a party, let alone a cake,
but we wanted to say "thank you" in a special way,
so here's another clue, let's call it a wake.
However, it wasn't shining so brightly on your birthday,
if I recall (you won't remember), you were twenty one,
so wasted, you had to be carried up the stairs by a friend,
that night, certainly, your drinking days were done.
So Happy 75th Birthday,
That's really what these words are for,
here's to you, (NAME), you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our love, for evermore.
