Exploring the inevitablity of death
After a few contemplative hours "exploring the inevitable" this is what I come up with. It certainly helped me put my mortality into prespective, I hope there's a line or two for you too.
Exploring the Inevitable
Peace. Silence. Peace. Perfect peace,
the only sort that comes with your very last breath,
maybe it?s time you contemplated the inevitable,
because one day you?ll be bedfellows, you and death.
And I don?t think it?ll be that scary,
although of course, life just won?t be the same,
but I think it would be an interesting journey,
to go back to the star from whence you came.
Now, I guess the very worst scenario,
is that you don?t get to hear or sing an angels song,
maybe there?s no afterlife, after all,
and religion has got it all so very wrong.
And if that is the highly unqualified case,
then all your left with is that simple peace,
then death wouldn?t be so bad after all,
because all of your worries would magically cease.
Maybe it?s just like the eons before you were born,
can you remember anything before you came to this planet earth?
And if that?s true then I have a question:
?What has your life been for? What is it really worth??
You won?t be able to take your possessions with you,
so materially, it just won?t matter a damn,
so if you?ve spent your life gathering gold,
well at the end of your days, that?s just a sham.
Of course, there?ll be those you?ve left behind,
and for a good while, you?ll be in their heart,
that is of course until the day of their inevitable,
because they too, one day, will have to depart.
So then all that?s really left to discuss,
is how, day by day, you should really live,
and intuitively, I think I know the answer,
because I think everybody should learn to give.
Give of themselves, give to others,
and make your life truly worthwhile,
because I guarantee you?ll win either way,
because after all, what if this is just a trial?
And what if, after that final breath,
then there is some sort of judgement day?
How on earth will you make your case?
what worthwhile thing could you possibly say?
For a common theme that applies to all religions,
is do good to others if you want to grow,
and I know that is the way to live,
and in the end I?m happy if that?s all I know. |
