This poem was written by Allen Jesson on the birth of his third child Alexander
I have been blessed, and I mean truly blessed, with four beautiful children. I wrote this very shortly after the birth of my third child, Alexander.
Alexander The Great
As I try and write a few lines,
For your book called Thomas the Tank,
I am so very, very happy,
And I don't know who to thank.
I see you as a peace bringer,
Building from an inner strength,
I guess these words need explaining,
And maybe, at length.
Your Granddad, on my side,
Is someone, sadly, you will never know,
But I know he is watching out for you,
And will look after you as you grow.
And what about your Nan ?
You'll see her when they come,
A funny, wonderful lady,
I know you'll love Dad's mum.
And then there's your aunts and uncles,
Too many to individually name,
Let's call them the Magnificent Eleven,
And hope you turn out the same.
Your Mum is a remarkable girl,
Perhaps the strongest woman I know,
I know you will love her dearly,
Just let your feelings show.
And then there's Michael,
Who is bronzed with specks of gold,
He is just a bundle of energy,
And just a little bit bold.
Let's not forget Aimee,
In her world of sugary spice,
I've never met anyone,
Who's even half as nice.
And then there's your Grandma,
Maybe you'll call her Lee,
A finer woman and grandmother,
You'll never ever see.
And then there's big Mick,
Whose words can cut like a knife,
But he does have a golden heart,
And for you, would give his own life.
And as you get to know,
The rest of the family,
You will find different strengths,
In every branch of the tree.
And what of the future ?
With your destiny guided by fate,
Well, for now I am very, very thankful,
To call you, Alexander the Great. |
