To parents on their 39th wedding anniversary, thanking them for staying together, they make each other laugh and they fight but they are more in love than ever
What is your name: Christine Carter
Who do you want the poem written for: My parents their wedding anniversary
Why do you want the poem written: To thank them for staying together for 38 years.
What are the key messages you would like to send: They are funny because they still tease each other and make each other laugh. They have fought the same fight forever - it's too hot for my Dad and too cold for my mom. My dad refers to my mom as 'your mother' as if she is an extraneous person. They fight and argue almost everyday yet love each other every night they go to bed. My mom tells me she is more in love with my dad now than ever.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: I remember when I thought my parents were going to divorce when my father returned from a hunting trip and was so mad that my mom painted the down stairs bathroom he checked into a hotel for 3 days. My mom cooks my dad meatloaf when he makes her angry. My dad surprised my mom for her 60th B-day by taking her to Chicago for the weekend to shop, eat dinner, and watch the symphony orchestra and ended it with her favorite espresso machine.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: They are nuts!
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy and funny

Truly Wonderful Nuts
Hello, my wonderful parents,
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and I'm very proud of what you do.
And I just wanted to say "congratulations",
but in truth, I just didn't know where to start,
so I thought I'd share a few thoughts,
and give you some words, straight from the heart.
Firstly, I wanted to begin by saying "thank you",
I'd like to thank you for your unconditional love,
I know that I've been blessed to have shared you,
in truth, I've been blessed by the heavens above.
And thanks for staying together for 38 years,
at times, I know that might have been quite hard,
but I think any trying times are now over,
and neither of you look too battle scarred.
You still tease each other mercilessly,
but you manage to always bring a smile to the other's face,
although you do seem to fight and argue a lot,
at times, a boxing ring wouldn't seem out of place.
It's too hot for Dad and it's too cold for Mom,
it seems like you've fought the same fight forever,
but you always make up before you go to bed,
and there, I'm sure you have the odd cuddle together.
Dad refers to Mom as 'your mother',
like she doesn't come from this Planet Earth,
but I know the value of the pair of you,
I know exactly what your love is truly worth.
Mom tells me she loves Dad more than ever,
and I know undoubtedly, that's a two way street,
and I just wanted to say I'm proud of you both,
I know my two parents are very hard to beat.
Actually, I was a little worried after the hunting trip,
and I don't want to fill these lines with unnecessary gloom,
but Dad, you did spend three days in a hotel,
and Mom, you did paint the downstairs bath room!
I also know you cook him meatloaf when you're angry,
so he might have had one or two that week,
but I'm just so glad you two stayed together,
or else these lines I never would have got to speak.
I never would have got the chance to say all this,
and tell you both just how wonderful you are,
but if my love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.
I just wanted to say Happy 38th Anniversary,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you Mom and Dad, you're nuts (but truly wonderful),
and here's to at least another thirty eight more. |
