Just the way you are
Hello, my wonderful Harry,
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and we'reI'm proud of what you do.
And I just wanted to say "I love you",
but in truth, I didn't know where to start,
so I thought I'd share a few feelings,
and give you some words, straight from my heart:
Let's begin by looking skywards,
and thanking the heavens above
I know we've been blessed to have shared you,
I know that we've been blessed with your love.
I, Jim, Brad, Suzanne, Sarah, Daniel, David and Mary Grace,
well, we all know that they've been heaven sent,
we also know you love your spaghetti, big band music,
and "Can't get started" doesn't apply in a charity event.
Because you've finished first or second, four or five times,
but in our lives, you've simply won gold,
and we just wanted to say "we love you",
and that's why your story must be told:
Truly, you are such a great husband,
and my! look how your mighty oak has grown
and your children and grandchildren all thank you,
they're very grateful for all the love that you've shown.
You're a great grandfather, you're a great father too,
and it's because of you, we've all literally soared,
and I know that you have some Almighty help,
because you have a personal savior, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
And I know that He keeps you safe on the road,
and there's many seniors that you've driven all around,
you're appreciated by many, especially this family,
we know that it's a pure and precious gem that we've found.
We have a 29 year difference in our age
but that has not stopped us from enjoying each other,
you're my best friend, my confidant,
you're my husband and yes, my lover.
And we've recently celebrated twenty years,
and it's been twenty years of wedded bliss,
and people have asked me what's our secret,
and I answer them; "it's as simple as this".
We love, we listen, we understand one another,
and we never take an argument to bed
and I know that, just over twenty years ago,
"I do" were the finest words I ever said.
You play Canasta, sometimes a Harry
and you know what baseball and football's all about,
and Cynthia once made you an offer that was hard to refuse,
"I've got two big ones, do you wanna go out?"
You love those old black and white movies,
and from Cleveland, you've travelled afar,
and I think our wedding song was simply perfect,
because you are loved: "Just the way you are"
So Happy 75th Birthday,
That's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Harry, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our love, for evermore. |
