A Gift of Poetry A Gift of Poetry. The unique gift for every occasion. A gift that says it all.

A poem from parents to daughter saying how lucky they are to be blessed with such a beautiful daughter and how very happy she makes them feel.

We have been asked not to publish the details of the request.

My Singhing Heart

I must have done something good,
something remarkable in a previous life,
because I have two wonderful children,
and yes, I have a very beautiful wife.

And I love Ravi and Debbie so much,
(and standing there they do make a handsome sight),
but their turn will have to wait,
because yes Amanda, it's your turn tonight.

You make an old man very happy,
in fact, I am just so very proud,
and I want to tell the world that I love you,
and I want to say it out aloud.

Actually, my love for you would be called Oxygen,
if it were an air to breathe,
and it would be all the collective hopes of the world,
if it were a dream to believe.

It would be called Mount Everest,
if it were a mountain to climb,
and it would be all the ages past and future,
if it were a measure of time.

You see, we didn't have much twenty odd years ago,
just determination, dreams (and our rented two bed flat),
but on December 30th, Nineteen Eighty,
you came along and changed all that.

Because, all at once, we were a family,
it was no longer just Deb and I,
now let me try and remember back then,
and I promise, I'll try not to cry :)

You were a very beautiful, pretty baby,
all smiles with that wonderful baby smell,
and I was the happiest Dad in all the world,
(and I still am - can you tell?).

A few months on, you had just started to crawl,
and you didn't know the oil heater was so very hot,
I don't know who cried and screamed the loudest,
but I know that I tried to blame your Mum an awful lot :(

Remember that lovely couple who used to baby-sit?
(and they had a pet that sat on your mat),
well, they lost the job, you gained an allergy,
and I became quite partial to curried cat !

Ravi was born when you were just two,
and obviously you felt neglected for a while,
so you'd make him cry by pinching him,
and then look at us with your wide eyed innocent smile.

You met Tara on your first day of preschool,
and still today you are the best of friends,
so maybe I should share your secret,
before these lines come to their inevitable ends.

Because you are such a wonderful person,
I couldn't have picked a better daughter (even if I'd tried),
and I have some special words for you,
and believe me, they come from deep inside.

You are an invigoration to us all,
you make dawns out of the darkest night,
you are like a piece of sunshine,
a warming, inspirational ray of light.

And maybe I've never really told you,
just how truly beautiful you are,
but if your beauty were a distance to be travelled,
then it would be further than the furthest star.

So I wish you happiness,
on this your very special day,
I wish you all the love in the world.
What more can there be left to say?

Apart from:
Sometimes, I don't appreciate just how lucky I am,
but when I look at you, my heart wants to sing,
and when you walk through the front door,
the walls blossom like flowers in the spring.

And when you're away from home,
there's always a feeling of autumnal chill,
but you always telephone regularly,
(even if I end up paying the bill :)

I think you have the beauty, kindness, intuition of your Mum,
(and the friendliness and generosity of your Dad),
and you, Amanda Singh, make my heart Singh,
you're the best daughter any parents ever had.
