To parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary, their daughter's gift tells of their strength and courage

Why do you want the poem written: They will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June.
What are the key messages you would like to send: The strength they display, the obstacles that the have overcome, the love that the share, their selflessness, their love for their 2 daughters, the joy they spread, their dedication to themselves and others, the many meals they have cooked and served and the love they have for themselves and their God.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: not that I can think of at the moment
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: They are truly special people

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: My parents got married when the world was still segregated. They endured the trials and troubles of society and they are still hanging strong 50 years later. Both have suffered numerous encounters with health problems, and I only wish that I had half the strength and courage that they did.
Like It's Butter
Ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should seize.
And that moment is upon us,
because, 50 years ago, Mom and Dad got wed,
and we've got a few thoughts on our minds,
yes, there's some heartfelt words that need to be said.
Firstly, we'd like to begin by saying "thank you",
we'd like to thank you for your undying support,
we're very grateful for all your love and guidance,
and for every lesson that you've taught.
The strength you display is simply amazing,
and there's many, many obstacles that you're overcome,
and we know we've been blessed to have you as parents,
so once again, thanks Dad and thank you Mom.
The love that you share is precious,
you're selfless, and we've felt the warmth of your love,
and I think we should thank our lucky stars,
in truth, I think we should thank the heavens above.
Because your faith has never, ever wavered,
you have a such a belief in the strength of The Lord,
and because of the love you have for us,
you've given us your wings and we've soared.
You spread joy like it's butter,
you spread it far and all around,
and you tread the path of the righteous,
your mere footsteps create hallowed ground.
Because you do so much for others,
there's many meals you've cooked and served,
and the love you have for each other is tremendous,
it's truly unconditional and richly deserved.
You are such special people,
there, our feelings are no longer hid,
I only wish I had half your strength and courage,
because you've endured where others never did.
You see, you married when the world was segregated,
but your love has brought the world together,
and yours is a story of gritty determination,
a love story, one that'll last forever and ever.
You've both battled your health problems,
but that has never weakened your spirit,
you both have such an attitude towards life,
"let's live it" and importantly "let's be in it".
And may you keep spreading your joy around,
because you're a mighty influence on us all,
because of you, we all walk taller,
in fact, we all feel like we're about ten feet tall.
And we just wanted to say Happy 50th Anniversary,
that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Mom and Dad, you're wonderful,
and here's to at least another fifty more. |
