A 50th Wedding Anniversary poem to much loved parents, reminiscing about things of the past
What is your name : Becky Westling (maiden name is Rees)
Who do you want the poem written for: parents
Why do you want the poem written: parents 50th anniversary
What are the key messages you would like to send: I am blessed to have them as parents. As a pre teen my sister gave them a run for their money then in the teen years I did. We broke them in well. Dad is kind, caring, loving, giving to a fault. Mom is fun, loved, creative, gracious, and a good listener. We went through some valleys only to come out on top. I am grateful for the valleys because without them I would not be the person I am today.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: I remember being at Aunt Ida Maes one winter and my cousins were there. I think our parents thought we were sleeping but of course we weren't. I remember seeing Dad drag Uncle Dick in the house because he had passed out in the snow. I remember thinking Dad was leaning against the counter funny. It didn't dawn on me the bottles around him were the cause of it! Then there is the time Mom and I, Jackie and Kimmy Wisuri were in the car. Mom and Jackie decided we would get lunch at the dive through. Mom ordered all this food. After the order was placed mom asked Jackie if she had money,. She didn't. so much to mine and Kimmys dismay they drove through waving at the people in the window.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: I have a cousin who was always getting in trouble. He would break things to see how they worked. When mom found the closet door broken ( I had pushed my sister into it, we told her "Brian did it" We forgot Brian hadn't been there for a month. If this poem sounds funny it's because "Brian did it"
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy
Do you have any last comments or thoughts: When we lived on Stone street I remember one rainy day. I started singing rain rain go away, come again some other day. Mommy and I wanna play. She gave me a funny look. When I had Sam I understood the look. I wanted him OUTSIDE! Dad had a paper route and I would go with him on Fridays. He would stop at my Uncle Scotts lumber yard. I knew I was a princess because I got to spend time with my dad and my uncle.
Like It's Butter
Ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should seize.
And that moment is upon us,
because, 50 years ago, Mom and Dad got wed,
and we've got a few thoughts on our minds,
yes, there's some heartfelt words that need to be said.
Firstly, we'd like to begin by saying "thank you",
we'd like to thank you for your undying support,
we're very grateful for all your love and guidance,
and for every lesson that you've taught.
The strength you display is simply amazing,
and there's many, many obstacles that you're overcome,
and we know we've been blessed to have you as parents,
so once again, thanks Dad and thank you Mom.
The love that you share is precious,
you're selfless, and we've felt the warmth of your love,
and I think we should thank our lucky stars,
in truth, I think we should thank the heavens above.
Because your faith has never, ever wavered,
you have a such a belief in the strength of The Lord,
and because of the love you have for us,
you've given us your wings and we've soared.
You spread joy like it's butter,
you spread it far and all around,
and you tread the path of the righteous,
your mere footsteps create hallowed ground.
Because you do so much for others,
and truly, you've done so very much for me,
as a pre teen my sister gave you a run for your money,
and then in my teen years, I copied her, not so splendidly.
I think we broke you in quite well,
but we went through the valleys to end up on top,
and our gratitude to you is simply enormous,
you kept on loving us and didn't know how to stop.
You are such special people,
there, our feelings are no longer hid,
I only wish I had half your strength and courage,
because you've endured where others never did.
Dad is kind and caring, Mum's fun and a good listener,
and your love has brought the world together,
and yours is a story of gritty determination,
a love story, one that'll last forever and ever.
I remember Dad dragging Uncle Dick in the house,
and leaning against the bar, kind of askew,
and if something went wrong "Brian did it",
that broken closet door wasn't me and it wasn't you.
You've both overcome our troubled teenage years,
but that has never weakened your spirit,
you both have such an attitude towards life,
"let's live it" and importantly "let's be in it".
And may you keep spreading your joy around,
because you're a mighty influence on us all,
because of you, we all walk taller,
in fact, we all feel like we're about ten feet tall.
And we just wanted to say Happy 50th Anniversary,
that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Mom and Dad, you're wonderful,
and here's to at least another fifty more. |
