A mothers poem to her son, don't listen to what other people say.

Hi Allen-
I will give you a bit if what is happening. Our son is 11, and played
hockey since he was 4. (Hockey is a BIG deal in the Northland) This
is the first year that Des had to "try out" to get on a team. His best
friends that he has played with made the "Pee Wee B1" team. Des made
the "PeeWee B2" team. This is the first year that they had to "try out"
to make a team. Des has played since he was 4 years old. Well, he made
the "Pee Wee B2" team. Some parents say it is because my husband makes a lot of noise with the hockey association and that he is a hockey referee. I do not know- I personally think Des should be on the B1 team and so do the other four parents that called us. ANYWAY, Des chose to quit. The kids on his team are very ill behaved, spitting at each other,
swearing and swinging their sticks at each other. The coaches have NO control over the team and are very young (with refereeing hockey this year, my husband just couldn't coach although they asked to do so several times) and do not know what they are doing. Anyway, he quit. This was devastating for him. He is just so unhappy and I support his
decision. How can I support him?? The kids are teasing him and calling him a quitter which he really isn't-this was a VERY hard decision for him./ Any ideas?????????? Thank you.

Quitters

Sometimes things in life,
can get a little rough,
you have to make some hard calls,
some decisions can be tough.

But if you are a B1,
then a B2 simply won't do,
no use going through the motions,
that won't get you through.

And if you've got your standards,
don't ever lower the bar,
some kids will call you a quitter,
but they will never be a star.

So go on son,
just follow your heart,
stick to what you believe in,
it's a great place to start.
