An 80th Birthday poem to a grandfather

What is your name : Amber

Who do you want the poem written for: My grandpa

Why do you want the poem written: We are celebrating his 80th birthday with a big dinner party in August and I would like to read him a poem during the celebration

What are the key messages you would like to send: Just what a great father and grandfather he is to all of his 6 children and 15 grandchildren. He's the perfect grandfather to us all. He made all of us feel important.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: He has nicknames for all of his children and grandchildren. He called his kids: Buttons, Bunny, Bootsie, Binky, Butch, and Bucky. He use to call me Hammy. He loves fishing and hunting and still tries to go every year.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Even though we moved away from my grandpa when I was younger, he still remained in my thoughts and prayers. I never got to say it often enough how much I love him.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.)happy

Grand Father and Grandfather

Ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should seize.

And that moment is upon us,
after all, 80 years ago, there was a birth day,
and I've got so many thoughts to share,
yes, that one line leaves so much to say:

Hello, my wonderful Grandpa,
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and I'm very proud of what you do.

And I know that you love your fishing,
hunting is also something you hold pretty dear,
and it's good to see you're still so young at heart,
after all, you're still going, year after year, after year.

6 children and 15 grandchildren,
look how your mighty oak has grown,
we're all very grateful for your kindness,
especially for all the love that you've shown.

You made all of us feel so very important,
and we've never said just how wonderful you are,
but if our love for you was a distance,
well, then it would be further than the furthest star.

Buttons, Bunny, Bootsie, Binky, Butch, and Bucky,
(just why was it they all started with the letter "b"?),
well, we all just wanted to say thank you,
you simply mean the world to him, her and me.

Actually, you used to call me Hammy,
and I know mere distance couldn't keep us apart,
because you were always in my thoughts and prayers,
and yes, we were always joined at the heart.

I never got to say it too often,
but I love you, I love you, there, I've said it twice,
because I know that you're so very special,
I've never known anyone even half as nice.

I just wanted to say you're a grand father,
in fact, you're the grandest in all the land,
and if I said you're also the perfect grandfather,
it may be confusing, but I hope that you understand.

We just wanted to say "Happy 80th Birthday",
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Grandpa, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to saying "I love you", for evermore.
