My Northern Star
Hello, my wonderful Christine,
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and I'm very proud of what you do.
And I just wanted to say "I love you",
but in truth, I didn't know where to start,
so I thought I'd share a few feelings,
and give you some words, they're straight from the heart:
Firstly, I'd like to begin by looking skywards,
and thanking those in the heavens above,
because I know I've been blessed to have shared you,
I know that I've been blessed with our love.
You are the Saint behind our Saint Bernard's
without you, we never would have received those top ranks,
of course, your training and the dogs played their part,
but to you, my darling, sincere and grateful thanks.
And we've come a long way from Chicago,
and we've journeyed down many a Bradstreet,
but in the theater of life, I think we're lucky,
because after all, this is not such a bad seat.
But it hasn't always been plain sailing,
the MBA meant studying many a long night,
and we spent an entire year of dating in the library,
but your love kept on shining so wonderfully bright.
You also put up with my many weekend absences,
but that's what I got for being in the Naval Reserve,
and those two week active duties were never at the right time,
and that time apart you certainly didn't deserve.
But you were the motivation behind the commission,
literally, you were truly the wind in my sail,
and now I've retired after 27 years as a commander,
my admiration and love for you will never fail.
So now I've stopped sailing the oceans,
because I know I've found true happiness, my final port,
and I know I wouldn't have made it without you,
so, thank you for your guidance and unyielding support.
I'd also like to thank you for your patience,
your support and understanding has meant a lot to me,
and I just wanted to thank you for being you,
you've made my world a great place to be.
I know that I am who I am because of you,
without your guidance I never would have come this far,
it's because of your commitment I've traveled,
in every way, you've been like my Northern Star.
And I just wanted to say Happy Anniversary,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Christine, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore. |
