Why do you want the poem written ?: Joseph's 23rd birthday is coming up on September 14th and I will not be able to spend it with him. I want him to know that I love him and I want him to have something special and unique.

Key Messages: We met in Qatar while we were both there for a deployment. We are both active duty Air Force and spent 5 months over in southwest asia. we were there when the war on Iraq began. When we first met, both of us were too shy to talk to the other, so at our first meeting I ended up turning and talking with some other friends of mine. when i turned back he was gone. i found him playing fussball with a buddy. i was a little offended so i left. after that, we made plans to meet up several times but i never seemed to make it out there (forgot, over-slept, etc) but finally we did and immediately we clicked and i fell head over heels. i've just been doing sommersaults since then.

Memorable Moments: Funny - We went to Beaufort, SC together and one beautiful night we were sitting on a wall at an outdoor bar by the water. When he went to pick up his beer and take a drink he ended up kissing a cockroaches rear because it was trying to crawl inside the bottle and he didn't see it before hand!
Sad - After spending nearly every day for five months together in Qatar, it came time for me to come back home to Nevada. Saying goodbye and walking away was the hardest thing I ever had to do. We weren't sure how long it would be until we got to see each other again. Fortunately, we have had the chance for mini-vacations.
Happy - His daughter Sarah was born on June 25, 2003 and he is just ecstatic. He is so proud to be a father. Although she is from a previous relationship, I am sure that he will be an excellent father and I am so happy for him to have his beautiful baby girl.
Memorable:
1- walking on the beach (Myrtle Beach)
2- When in Myrtle Beach we went to eat at Joe's Crab shack. He had me try crab legs for the first time (eeww) and I convinced him to eat some calamari (his response to that was ewww as well)
3- We went to Hunting Island, SC and saw an alligator just laying in the water. I wasn't sure if it was real, so to prove it David dropped a nickel on it's nose. However, instead of hitting it's nose, the nickel hit the gator smack on the eye.
4- Feeding the geese at Short Stay... thought they were going to end up in a full out brawl!

Love From The Stars

Hello, my wonderful Joseph, I'm sorry I can't be with you there today, but I do have a few words in my head, there's a few heartfelt things I'd like to say. You see, I do love you so very much, you are my sun, my moon, my loving star, and I guess I've never really told you, just how truly wonderful you really are. I remember when we first met, we were too shy to talk to one another, I had no dreams then of what would be, had no thoughts of you being my best friend and lover. I ended up turning and talking to some friends of mine, and then when I turned back you weren't there, I found you playing fussball with a buddy, I left (because I was offended and thought you unfair). After that, we made plans to meet several times, but I never seemed to make it, my promise was never kept, of course, I came up with some wonderful excuses, and sometimes I did forget, others I just overslept. But finally we managed to make our ends meet, and eventually we went out together, we clicked, I fell head over heels in love, and I'll be doing somersaults forever and ever. I know you're so proud of Sarah, I also know you'll be an excellent father too, I'm so happy for you to have your beautiful girl, I know you love her dearly (and of course, she will love you). I remember when we went to Beaufort, SC, we couldn't have picked a better night if we'd tried, and the moment I'll remember for all of time, is when you went to kiss a cockroach's backside ! We spent nearly every day together in Qatar, so after five months it was hard for me to say goodbye, walking away was the hardest thing I've ever done, and being in the Air Force you're supposed not to cry. But the tears ran freely that day, I wasn't sure when I'd see you again, I had no idea of how long we'd be apart, all I knew I was counting the days to sometime when. Fortunately, we've had some mini-vacations, when once again, we've been able to re-unite, and I'm just sorry we're not together today, how I'd love to be in your arms tonight. I remember walking on Myrtle Beach, talking about our futures hand in hand, making tracks to last a lifetime, as we left our footprints in the sand. That was the first time I tried crab's legs, and calamari, for you, also came as a surprise, but nothing compared to the alligator on Hunting Island, who was quite startled to get a nickel smack in his eyes. The time we fed the geese at Short Stay, we fed them all, large and small, although some got a little excited, we thought they were going to end up in a brawl. And these are just some of our happy memories, and we've got many more, yet to be written and told, because I'm looking forward to our future, yes, with you, I'm even looking forward to getting old. Because you mean the very world to me, and I do love you with all my heart, and it is so very tough being away from you, it is just so hard being so far apart. But although mere distance may separate us, we are joined together by a much stronger bond, and if I could be there with you today, I would, and like a magician, I'd wave my magic wand. But I'll just have to cuddle your memory hard tonight, and please remember, we share the same stars above, so tonight, go outside and look skyward, and there twinkling in the sky, you will see my love.
