Footsteps

When we were very little, you'd whistle and threaten a couple of spanks, and now we know the wisdom of your ways, we'd like to send you a little message of thanks. We've followed in your footsteps, you've guided us every step of the way, and we'd just like to say that we're proud of you, on this - the fiftieth anniversary of your wedding day. You see, you've taught us so very much, including the importance of quality dinner time, so we'd just like to say thank you, and that's the meaning in this rhyme. We are, as a family, musically inclined, and you always volunteered us at every chance, and that is why we never have stage fright, whenever we sing, perform or dance. You never once fought in front of us, never heard you with your voices raised, and your faith has been so consistent, the Lord's work you've consistently praised. When we were growing up, you were strict, but now you're our confidants, our friends, always there with an understanding ear, and friendly advice on how to make amends. You left all your possessions and careers behind, to give us a better life, a chance to dream, and of all the parents in this world, you would surely make the Olympic team. One of your key successes is communication, you talk, you discuss, you decide in synch., and you've this inbuilt telepathy, you instinctively know what the others think. You've always been there for us, and you've always put others first, yourselves last, and we're so proud that you're our parents, and we're proud of your noble and glorious past. The lessons that you've taught us, have been valuable and very sound, and even when you spanked us, your love for us was always newly found. You've trained us in all aspects of life, from cleaning, cooking, to nobler arts of the soul, and thanks to you we're so complete, with you, we are so completely whole. So we'd just like to say thanks, that's really what these words are for, here's to you Mama and Papa, and here's to another fifty more. And there's one last promise that we'd like to make, and we say this very much as devoted husbands and wives, the only wish we have for our marriages, is to follow in your footsteps in our married lives.
