A 50th Wedding Anniversary gift for parents from their daughter-in-law reminiscing on their great family vacations together.
We have been asked not to publish the details of this request.
Fifty Years
Fifty years is a lifetime for some,
and this moment will simply not last,
so I'd better have my say quickly,
because the next fifty will go just as fast.
Firstly, from a daughter-in-law's perspective,
and this is a pretty good place to start,
I'd like to thank you for welcoming me in,
you've always welcomed me with an open heart.
And this is such a great family,
and we really do have such a wonderful time,
and we'd just like to thank you both,
it's just one of the reasons for this rhyme.
You have an immense love for your family,
and your generosity knows no bounds,
whether it's Johnny taking Michael to MacDonald's,
or Mom just doing her nursing home rounds.
Christmas and Thanksgiving are always so special,
it's when the family truly unites as one,
a time for turkey and happiness,
a time of much laughter and fun.
We celebrate each and every birthday,
and that's a special moment in life,
and I feel lucky to be part of this,
yes, I even feel lucky to be Mike's wife !
Our family vacations are legendary,
(another reason for this little speech),
but we really do have such wonderful times,
at Disney World and Myrtle Beach.
You've taught us all wonderful lessons,
including teaching Mike how to ski,
the difficult bit is not getting your hair wet,
but Mom, you do that so beautifully.
No matter where we choose to eat out,
Johnny always sends his steak back,
(it's his way of reducing his cholesterol,
and of avoiding a heart attack !)
Our memories we'll always treasure,
just like that wonderful photo album you made,
you've recorded for all time and posterity,
the magical roles that you've played.
You've always been there for us,
whether to baby-sit or simply lend a hand,
you've bought us so many unique gifts,
when you've traveled to a far off land.
So we'd just like to thank you,
that's really what these words are for,
here's to you Mom and Dad,
and here's to another fifty more. |
