To Sister and her Groom on their wedding day, both serving officers
What is your name : Kim Riter
Who do you want the poem written for: Sister, Lori
Why do you want the poem written: She's getting married on Friday, 7/2/04
What are the key messages you would like to send: How much Lori & Jeff's families love them and how happy we are they complete one another.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Below are messages I had Lori and Jeff provide. This poem is a gift from my husband, Jim, & me to them.Lori's note about Jeff:His faithfulness is unwavering. His tenderness and caring are constant and abundant. How Jeff is always there for me. He is loyal and hardworking and loving. His gaze from across the room melts my heart. I can feel his love in his glance. His touch is so gentle and loving. He is so caring and considerate. I love him for all the little things he does like ironing my clothes when I am in a hurry, trading dinners with me when I don't like my entr?e, touching my face to reassure me, and telling me his true thoughts and feelings all the time. Lastly he teases me about my messiness and my ability to get into "I Love Lucy" type situations. I am constantly getting into some crazy situation. Last year he prepared me for war in Iraq. He held my hand through all the deployment meetings and cried with me then helped me pack and sort everything to take with me to Iraq. After I arrived in Iraq in April, he wote me letters every day and emamiled me often. He was forgiving when I could not write him letters everyday but then understood more when he deployed to Iraq himself in July . Our relationship grew stronger while we were separated and we both got aquainted with each others families. We share the same common family bonds, having grown up in a loving family with lots of cousins aunts and uncles. So I admire him for loving his family so much and letting his family and my family be a part of our lives. Jeff and I met in my driveway. I was washing my car while he was walking to the mailbox. That very night we met our mutual friends (Jen and Chris) who will attend the wedding were trying to set me up with Jeff on a blind date. We socialized with friends going out together with everyone then started dating. After we started dating we both knew one morning while we were enjoying breakfast out at the local waffle time restaurant that we were meant to be. It was a look in his eyes while we were both eating waffles. We both remember that moment. It was a few weeks after we met that we both knew we wanted the same things in life and in a relationship together. We started going to church together and I thought it was funny when he occasionally dozed off in church. I was impressed that he cooked for me sometimes while he was impressed with the mess I made every time I cooked. Once he arrived home to find me running into the kitchen to stir a pan full of coking food. He teases me about my forgetfulness and messiness and calls me Lucy for it. He always tells me that his favorite thing I wear is my smile.
I love the way he looks at me and wants to hold my hand and act like we are highschool sweethearts. I admire him for being such a compassionate physician to his patients and volunteering his time to coach elementary school basketball. He is funny, sweet, intelligent and considerate. What more can I say? He has a good sense of humor as he is always joking around with me. Once his car was for sale and he called the house pretending to be a buyer for the car while the "buyer" was more interested in meeting with me than buying the car. I didn't know it was him until he arrived home a few hours later. Another time I rescued a small dog (we named Max) from a gas station parking lot and I was able to see how much tolerance he had for animals. He liked the dog until it ruined his screen door, got loose twice and constantly humped legs and arms of people and furniture. We put him up for adoption. Now we have our own dog named Okie who destroys the house, pees on our car tires and barks at passing cars at 2 am. We love him.
Jeff is a very conservative person but with lots of compassion. I bring out the life in him with my worry free attitude. He seems more easy-going now and now openly demonstrates his love for me every day by calling me, writing me or telling me how much he loves me. He didn't totally open up to me until a few days before I left for Iraq then after I was gone he realized along with everyone else around him that he loved me so much. Jeff's message about Lori.I guess I have once again been tasked to complete a mission for Lori. I am to provide some thoughts so that you, the reader of this can mold my feeling and thoughts into a poem. Key messages: The closeness we feel no matter how much distance is between us, the way I can read her mind and know her thought before she says a word. Lori adds the frosting to my cake, the spice to my life, I am much more conservative, not boring but certainly not as unpredictable as Lori. She is at times clumsy which most of the time is amusing and certainly part of her adorable personality. She loves it when I glance at her as she puts it, but it is really I that loves the way she lights up when our eyes meet. I often tell her that the most beautiful thing she wears is her smile. Lori and I are both recently returning from duty in Iraq, during which time our relationship seemed to only get stronger and stronger, and when we returned it was like we were only apart for a day and not almost a year. While in the midst of the harsh desert environment, Lori always somehow found time and resources for me. She made me a hand made card, with much thought and detail for my promotion and then sent me 40 birthday cards on my 40th birthday, each one telling me yet another reason why she loves me. She seems to always know, what it is I will have need of, I spent 2 months in the very hot Iraqi desert with no power, and the day we finally got power, we found that we were unable to use the electrical device we had without certain plugs and transformers and later that day I got a box in the mail that was sent by Lori over a month ago, and inside was a transformer and an adaptor that made me the envy of everyone. I was more excited to have someone so special looking out for me than to have the really not so cool breeze that the fan offered. Lori always has my best interest at heart. I really only care about loving her and spending time with her, she has brought so much joy to my life, I once described her as my sparkle when asked to give one word that best fits Lori. I know you were likely hoping me more input from me, but part of my personality is crisp, clean, and brief, I don't dress up what I have to say, few words, get the meaning across and stop talking, or as Lori would tell you I am a good listener, do I have a choice?!Jeff's input about Lori: I guess I have once again been tasked to complete a mission for Lori. The Happiest of Days
I think I?ll begin by looking upwards,
and asking for blessings from the heavens above,
because never has there been a more deserving couple,
never have two people been more in love.
Sometimes it takes a waffle moment,
it?s a moment when you look into each others eyes,
and then quite simply, you know, you just know,
although to the initiated, this could come as no surprise.
Jeff and Lori have shared their waffles,
but they?ve also shared so much more in life,
and here they are, gathered before us,
proudly about to become husband and wife.
Now Lori, at times, could be called Lucy,
her messiness can get all over the place,
but Jeff is always there for her,
with a swap of an entr?e or a touch of the face.
His gaze from across the room melts Lori?s heart,
and she can feel his love in a glance,
his touch is so gentle and loving,
Jeff will do anything for Lori, given half the chance.
Although helping Lori to pack for Iraq was a chore,
you were there to dry her many tears,
and you were apart for nearly twelve long months,
and that could have been one of the more difficult years.
But although mere distance separated you,
you were still joined together at the heart,
you both grew closer with every day,
even though you spent that time apart.
Lori adds the frosting to Jeff?s cake,
he reckons that he can read her mind,
and he?s never met anyone so beautiful,
and he?s never met anyone who?s even half as kind.
She lights up when their eyes meet,
the most beautiful thing she wears is her smile,
and Jeff feels like the luckiest man on this earth,
there?s never been a luckier one walking up that aisle.
The love you have for each other is obvious,
so is the fact that you make a remarkable team,
and we just wanted to wish you ?bon voyage?,
as you set sail for your future, towards your dream.
We want to wish you love, health and happiness,
that?s truly what these words are for,
here?s to you, Jeff and Lori, you?re wonderful,
and here?s to your everlasting love, for evermore.
Whether it?s an adapter or just holding hands,
you show your love for each other in so many ways,
we just wanted to give you our best wishes,
and wish for you only the happiest of days. |
