A poem for parents who have had it tough but have managed to survive and are now celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary
We have been asked not to publish the details of this request.
Commitment
In honor of two very special people,
we're celebrating their forty years tonight,
they've been our inspiration in life,
they've been our wonderful guiding light.
And life has had its ups and downs,
we've had our share of laughter and tears,
but we would just like to tell them,
how much we've appreciated them through the years.
Mom and Dad were both fascinating to grow up with,
Dad had so many lessons to teach,
he knew the scientific formula for just about everything,
and there was always a word of wisdom within reach.
Mom taught us how to be creative,
and also how to live out our dreams,
they were (and are) a remarkable couple,
surely one of the world's finest ever teams.
Mom was always into arts and crafts,
Dad was more on the cautious side,
so we are now free, giving, (but careful) spirits,
we couldn't have picked better parents - even if we'd tried.
They both grew up in Pennsylvania,
and then New Jersey wasn't so far away,
then after 15 years we moved to Michigan,
that was a pretty hard adjustment - We'd say.
When Dad went on his business trips,
he somehow wrangled the whole family along,
a hotel in Boston with a pool in the roof,
he was our hero - he simply could do no wrong !
We would often go for drives on a Sunday,
and to add to the excitement they'd pretend we were lost,
we'd drive all over the countryside of New Jersey,
never mind the expense, never mind the cost !
We always had pets growing up,
from hamsters to a horse,
Dad didn't always like the idea of so many pets,
but Mom always got her own way (of course).
Now Dad played it like he didn't like the pets,
or at least he gave it a very good try,
but he was always so very kind to them,
and he'd even "let a sleeping dog lie".
Now that they've retired,
they have Harry, Peaches and Sunshine.
These are now the three "kids" that they spoil,
(we promise that there's no jealousy in that line).
Because they've looked after us royally,
they've inspired us from the start,
to have respect for others ,
that?s one reason they'll forever be in our hearts.
Because they've taught us long, they've taught us well,
the importance of family, trust and love,
they've taught us the importance of Sundays,
and having faith in God above.
And still today, on some Sundays,
We can turn up the stereo full blast,
and happily remember those days,
and gracefully Polka into our past.
We know at times that you did it tough,
and at times your marriage did not thrive,
but we're thankful that you stayed together,
and managed to keep the dream alive.
So our commitment to you,
is exactly as you've done for us before,
it's a simple unconditional promise;
we'll love for you both for evermore. |
