A poem about the life of a brother who died
We have been asked not to publish the details of this request
A Celebration
Sometimes, people in life,
get to go "all the way",
sometimes others get cut way too short,
all too soon they have their final day.
But everything for a reason,
even although it's not simply black and white,
and it seems that your journey was a tough one,
in fact, it was quite a remarkable plight.
Because, whilst you battled your illness,
you'd give away your last $5 or the shirt off your back,
kindness, compassion and generosity,
were qualities that you never lacked.
Of course, the family is heart broken,
and you've left a gap that's impossible to fill,
because we loved you more than life itself,
and then we loved you even further still.
But your life needs to be celebrated,
because through adversity you came shining through,
and you should be proud of your life,
because I know that we're so very proud of you.
You had thirteen nephews and nieces,
and you were a marvelous Uncle to every one,
they miss you with all their hearts,
they've lost a ray out of their morning sun.
Swinton Avenue and Birch Road will never be the same again,
memories of you live on every road,
fond memories that have taken root in many a mind,
(it's because of all the positive seeds that you sowed).
You were so very organized, clean and neat,
and I wish you'd been more stubborn towards the end,
because not only did I lose a brother,
I lost a very good and lifelong friend.
But your spirit lives on,
and will live on in us for evermore,
just know that we love and miss you very much,
and that's really what these words are for.
Your sisters and brothers all miss you so,
and now, sadly, we're down to seven,
but you'll always be in our hearts,
and it's nice to know that there's a piece of us in heaven.
Because God must have wanted you by his side,
He could clearly see your inner worth,
and He knew your work was done,
He knew you'd had your time on earth.
And we will always celebrate your life,
we'll be proud of what you achieved and what you done,
and we'll look back and be thankful for our time together,
with a simply marvelous brother, uncle and such a wonderful son. |
