A couple who met on Independence Day, dated but it didn't work out so she moved away, destiny brought them back together and they are now celebrating their 1st Anniversary

4th July

You and I first met in 1990,
I was a freshman, you were a senior at High School,
we both admired each other from a distance,
we both thought that the other was kind of cool.

When you found someone that knew me,
you plucked up the courage and asked me out,
we'd just go to a friends or the movies,
didn't know much of what love was all about.

The detail evades me now,
but somehow we just drifted apart,
we still stayed good friends,
fragile strands joined us at the heart.

After High School, I moved to another town,
my baby came too early, but some things just won't wait,
put it down to experience,
and one of those little tricks of fate.

You made contact once again,
but the baby was a heavy load,
and distance kept us apart,
and distance can be a lonely road.

I decided to move back to my home town,
it was early in the Fall of '99,
I was trying to get my life back on track,
I was trying to write the very next line.

Because I met you once again,
and this time destiny brought us together,
we'd sailed those winds of fate,
and we'd survived the stormy weather.

And now I'm so very happy,
and in this you can have no fear,
because I have been with you,
for exactly just one year.

And I just wanted to say "I love you",
that's all I really wanted to say,
and I'm so glad we met up that night,
you certainly made my Independence Day.
