Love Bears

I know I never tell you often enough,
I'm sorry, the words get trapped in my heart,
but I just wanted to say "I love you",
in truth, I don't know where to start.

I wanted to talk about your tearful proposal,
or our wedding day when I was the loving bride,
but all I can think of is to thank you for being you,
I couldn't have picked a finer husband - even if I'd tried.

You see, you are the perfect match for me,
better than that, you're the love of my life,
and I just wanted to say I'm proud of you,
I'm very proud to be known as your wife.

You light up my life, you make me laugh,
and yes, sometimes you leave me guessing,
but I know I was lucky to have met you,
more than that, I know it was a blessing.

You've made a much better person out of me,
I've been like putty in your careful hands,
you've given me so much already,
with always an ear that cares and understands.

Now, I have a marriage I'd only dreamed of before,
truly, you are the husband of my dreams,
you're strong, tough, tenacious, but so very caring,
one loving half of the one of the world's greatest teams.

And I know that circumstance may separate us,
but there's no accounting for those winds of fate,
but what I do know is that your love keeps me sane,
my lonely Afghan nights are warmed by you, my soul-mate.

And I just wanted to say you're wonderful,
in truth, I've never said just how wonderful you are,
but if my love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.

You are my lover and companion for life,
but better than that, you are my true friend,
and I will love you beyond forever,
I will love you long after our journey's end.

Love bears all things,
and in my case, love has bared me whole,
for now, I know I love you completely,
in truth, I love you with my heart, my very soul.

I also wanted to say Happy First Anniversary,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, William, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.
