A Gift of Poetry A Gift of Poetry. The unique gift for every occasion. A gift that says it all.

A Gift of words to the man she is soon to marry, talking of their past, their future and of course their love

What is your name : Kristen Winter

Who do you want the poem written for: Justin, my fiance.

Why do you want the poem written: We will be married aboard the Carnival Glory cruiseship on May 22, 2004 and I want him to know how much I love and care for him.

What are the key messages you would like to send: I have confidence that he has the ability to achieve all of the goals he has planned for himself and our future together. He will be a wonderful husband and father. He is always worried about letting me down, and I want him to know that is not possible.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: I wrote our history below, you can choose.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Justin and I met in October of 1998. He was a center for our high school football team at Andrean. I was the student trainer for the team. I would tape them before practice and games hand out water, etc. I would tape Justin's thumbs before games and by the end of the first quarter he would always have me cut part of the tape because I taped it too tight. Our first date was at the restaurant, Rio Bravo, with a group of his friends. We normally would spend our evening and weekends in my parent's basement watching movies until two in the morning. Justin graduated in 1999, and I graduated in 2000. When he graduated from high school he went to St. Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois which was about 45 minutes from where we lived in Hobart, Indiana. He would come home to see me every weekend. When I graduated I went to Indiana University Northwest (I.U.N.), which is the community college. I attended I.U.N. for a year and he moved back home and took off school for a year.
We had discussed getting married for awhile and one day while we were at the mall we looked at rings. We found an engagement ring that we both loved. We walked around the mall for awhile and then went back to J.B. Robinson's jewelry store to buy the ring. This was on February 11, 2001. He was going to keep the ring and propose when he wanted. On February 14th, Valentines Day, he went to his dad's house to tell him that we had bought a ring. While he was talking to his dad, I was at my house (parents house) talking to them about my day. My dad was in the kitchen washing dishes and asked what Justin had gotten me for Valentines Day. I told him he had bought a frame and put a picture of us in it. My dad immediately, out of nowhere asked where the ring was. I acted like I had no idea what he was talking about but he had caught me off guard. I finally told him what Justin was doing and that we had bought a ring. My mom told me to call him and tell him to bring it to me. A couple hours later he showed up with the ring and handed it to me. When he walked in the door my dad was standing in the kitchen with his shotgun propped up against the counter as a joke. We went over to my grandparent's house to show them the ring that night. So to this day, he still has not asked me to marry him. I always joke with him about his. I think he was relieved that it happened that way because he had planned on asking my dad if he could marry me and it got him out of that.

In the summer of 2001, we both moved to Evansville, Indiana, about 5 hours from our parents. We moved into an apartment at Copper Creek (apartment complex). We both attended the University of Southern Indiana (USI) for two years and now I am attending Ivy Tech State College possibly for nursing, and he is attending Oakland City College for a business degree. We have since moved into the Kimber Green apartments. I currently work as a certified nursing assistant (C.N.A.) at an assisted living facility called River Pointe Health Campus. He has been working for Batteries Plus in sales but he will be starting a new job at an air conditioning/heating business called Jack Frost this week. He will be doing their warranties and parts ordering. We have a pet bearded dragon named Jub Jub, after the lizard on the Simpson's show and he likes to watch football and have people talk to him. Neither of us have children but we are planning on having kids in the future. We will be having our wedding on a cruiseship in Florida and 26 of our family members will be in attendance. Afterwards, 16 of our family members will be joining us for a 7 day cruise to the Western Caribbean. Things I love about him are. He will come home from work and make me dinner when I am tired. This usually consists of macaroni & cheese or peanut butter & jelly. He will go to bed with me at night even when he is not tired because I can fall asleep easier. He calls me Sweet Pea. He tells me I am beautiful even when I am wearing my yoga pants and a sweatshirt. He tells me he loves me every time I talk to him. He will dance with me in the kitchen while he hums a song. He is very easily amused. Things that drive me crazy. He loves buttered popcorn at the movies and I think it is disgusting. He leaves his clothes lying wherever he took them off. He has to have the remote in his possession at all times. Things we do together. We go to the Briar & the Bean (coffee and cigar shop) for cappy hour [yes, cappy hour not happy hour :)] on weekdays because drinks are half off. We will also go to Chilis on Mondays for their "Fajita Rita Mondays" when fajitas for two are $11 and margaritas are $2.We will go down to the Ohio River and sit at the riverfront for a picnic lunch in the summer.
We like to go to Mesker Park zoo. We always go to the movies, out to eat, and stay in and watch movies. We are pretty boring people!

Justin's Beans

Ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should seize.

And that moment is upon us,
after all, it's not every day that a girl gets wed,
and I've got a few thoughts on my mind,
yes, there's some heartfelt words that need to be said.

Firstly, Justin, I love you,
in truth, I love you so very, very much,
I love how you smell, your sense of being,
and yes, how I love your tender touch.

Secondly, I'd like to thank our parents,
I'd like to thank them for everything they've ever done,
their love has been our inspiration, our light,
in every way, they've been our morning sun.

Now, with the thank you's out of the way,
it's time to spill some of Justin's beans,
because I'm so fed up of picking his clothes up,
out of the two of us, guess which one cleans!

He loves buttered popcorn at the movies,
actually, nothing disgusts me more,
and he always has to be in charge of the remote,
after all, what else is his right hand for?

Actually, there are many things I love about him,
and in no particular order, here they are;
he is very easily amused, he's very bright,
in fact, he shines like he's my northern star.

He will come home from work and make me dinner,
(peanut butter and jelly or macaroni and cheese),
he will come to bed with me at night even if he's not tired,
(just so that I can fall asleep in his arms with ease).

Even when I wear my yoga pants and a sweatshirt,
he still calls me beautiful, he calls me Sweetpea,
he tells me he loves me every time I talk to him,
and in every way, he's made my world a better place to be.

And I just wanted to promise you my eternal love,
you are my dreams personified, my dream to believe,
and I know you'll be a wonderful husband and father,
and I know there's many goals we're going to achieve.

And I know that you worry about letting me down,
well listen, because I want to say this straight,
it's just not possible, I love you too much,
because you are my destiny, my soul-mate.

And I just wanted to say that I love you,
and to start our new journey, hand in hand together,
Justin, I will love for all of eternity,
and that's a love that will simply last forever.
