A poem to be read at the funeral of a much loved mother who passed 3.5 monthers after her father, she says, of a broken heart, they were married for 62 years

What is your name : Amy Blasen

Who do you want the poem written for: my mother

Why do you want the poem written: my mother passed away yesterday; 3.5 months after my father. They had a beautiful, close relationship--we were so very close to both of them; they were married 62 years and so once he died she was soon to follow ...??? from a "broken heart"??

What are the key messages you would like to send: My mother was the most amazing woman ever known. Happily married to my father(a PhD and cofounder of the American College of Sports Medicine), she worked both at home and as a nurse, she raised five girls ;all of us are now professionals-- and did so with all the happiness, love, and support needed. In addition, she infused kindness and love in everything she did - She demanded us to treat others the way we wanted to be treated and if our actions were out of line she came down on us with the "velvet" hammer. Yet, even with reprimanding she did it in such a way that we never felt unloved or embarassed.I desperately want to give this type of message and to include the fact that we are who we are because of her and that any good qualities are from her and that however distraught we all are now (terribly)because of losing both of them in less than 4 months she will always live on inside us. She was so kind that she would constantly "adopt" people she would meet regardless of race, age or gender just to lend a helping hand, a meal, $, or moral support... if only 1% of the world was like this we would live in a great place!!

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: see above

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: I need this asap -- the ceremony is in 48 hrs.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): sad because of the death but with happy points throughout because of her generosity

Please choose which package you would prefer:Deluxe

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: as above- thank you so much for your work on this she was my inspiration.

Shining Bright

Just like that, the sun goes out,
all of a sudden, a journey ends,
and we're all left feeling bereft,
we've all lost some very good friends.

I think Mom died of a broken heart,
once Dad had passed, her sun no longer shone,
and now, I'm feeling so heartbroken,
I can't believe they're not here, they've gone.

But I will find a wonderful solace,
knowing that, once again, they're together,
because theirs is story that lasted 62 years,
and it's one that's destined to last forever and ever.

My mother was a truly amazing woman,
actually, the most remarkable one I've ever known,
and I'm very grateful for her lifetime of kindness,
I'm very grateful for all the love that she's shown.

She raised 5 girls, all of us are now professionals,
and she worked both at home and as a nurse,
she did so with happiness and love in her heart,
and that heart was like a bottomless purse.

She infused kindness and love in everything she did,
and even her velvet hammer had a kindly blow,
she demanded we treat others like we should,
and if we stepped out of line, she'd let us know.

But we never felt unloved or embarrassed,
she just tried steering us towards a better port,
if only the world could live like my mother,
and just for a moment, please hold that thought.

Because, us girls, we were taught so much,
importantly, we were taught how to give,
we were taught to be kind to one another,
we were taught that there's a better way to live.

We are who are because of our parents,
and their spirit will live on, it's burning inside,
and our love for them is an eternal flame,
and it will be a source of our eternal pride.

And no matter how distraught we're feeling today,
her spirit will be our inspiration, our light,
and I was wrong when I said the sun had gone out,
because Mom's love will always be, shining bright.
