A gift from Bride to Mother to be read on her Wedding Day, saying she loves her and is pleased they have become closer
What is your name : Christel Johnson
Who do you want the poem written for: My mother
Why do you want the poem written: I am getting married on August 28, 2004 and I want my mother to know how much I have appreciated her guidance, even though we have not been so close this wedding has truly brought us together. I will say this poem in front of my family and friends in honor of my mother.
What are the key messages you would like to send: My mom is a great mom who has made mistakes. She and I have never really been close. My mom was a single mother raising 3 kids, Allan, Brandon and me, Christel. She has always been there physically, but never there for me emotionally. Recently we have "re-connected" and she has acknowledged her actions as well as apologized for them. Within the last week my mom recognized the lack of her emotion, affection and attention towards me. She told me that she wishes that she had been the kind of mother I am to my 7 year old son, Christopher. I understand where she is coming from and I want her to know that no matter what mistakes she has made, I always loved her and love her even more. She has been an example to me whether it was a positive experience or a negative experience -- and I am grateful for that. Her hardships have been my example to be a better mother, daughter, sister, friend and (soon to be) wife. If it was not for my mom I would not have become the wonderful woman I am today. This wedding I am having is because of her and I acknowledge, appreciate and am very grateful to her. I want my mom to know that I cherish the moments that we will share now and in the future. I look forward to becoming closer with her and I am grateful that she realized that she wasn't there, but is willing to do anything to be a part of my life now. I want her to know that we are now going to move forward together and the past doesn't matter only the future and we have the choice to create a wonderful and bright future and mother and daughter.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: My mom remembers when I use to kick my feet as an infant when I was happy to see her. I had bells on my shoes and they use to jingle when I kicked my feet.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: My mom calls me BG, baby girl. I always call her mommy. I will be wearing an ivory gown in crystals and my fiance is David Thornton.
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): sad/happy, but in a joyous way. something that will make her feel special and remember this moment. My wedding is a formal event in the evening.

A Flying Start
Ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should seize.
And that moment is upon us,
after all, it's not every day a girl gets wed,
and I've got some thoughts on my mind,
yes, there's some heartfelt words that need to be said:
You see, I wanted to thank my mother for her guidance,
hers has been an unconditional love, it's been my light,
and I just wanted to say "thank you, Mommy",
your love has shone so consistently bright.
And I know that we haven't always been that close,
but this wedding has truly brought us together,
and I think today could be the start of a new journey,
one, that this time, will last forever and ever.
My mom is a great mom who has admitted making mistakes,
and I don't think she'd mind me saying that today,
because I know she had to do it very tough,
and that one line leaves so much to say.
You see, Mom was a single mother raising 3 kids,
she has always been there for me, but seldom emotionally,
but now we have made up and have reconnected,
and both our worlds are a much better place to be.
And Mommy, I just wanted you to know that I love you,
there, I've gone and said it right out loud,
and I know you were the best mother you could be,
I'm your daughter (and that makes me so very proud).
I have always loved you so very much,
and tomorrow, I'll love you even more,
I'll admit that you've set good and bad examples,
but don't worry, I've stopped keeping score.
Your hardships have actually been my inspiration,
and because of you, I've learned to fly,
and I just wanted to tell you that you did a great job,
or at least, I'm going to give it my very best try.
If it were not for, I would not be who I am today,
and I've never said just how wonderful you are,
but if my love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.
I acknowledge, appreciate and am very grateful to you,
I'm so looking forward to our future as the stories unfold,
and I know that I'll cherish every moment that we share,
we'll create precious memories to treasure and to hold.
I look forward to becoming closer to you,
and I'd like to thank you for letting me in,
and I just wanted to say "I love you",
but in truth, I just didn't know where to begin.
So I think I'll end by looking upwards,
and thanking those in the heavens above,
because I know I've been blessed to have met you,
I know that I've been blessed with your love.
And mommy, BG will always kick her feet for you,
because you're the one that's put the jingle in my heart,
I just wanted to say: "You're the wind beneath my wings",
and with David, thanks to you, my new life is off to a flying start. |
