50th Wedding Anniversary Poem for Mom and Dad to be read at their party which will be the first time in years the family have all been together.
Full Name: Lisa Fox
Who do you want the poem written for?: Mom and Dad
Why do you want the poem written ?: 50th Wedding Anniversary Party on July 5th 2003. This will be the first time we have all been together in years! We are all living in different states and it's hard to get together.
Key Messages: How myself and my 3 brothers and sister (Steve, Sam, Craig and Karen) love them and appreciate everything they have done for us. We were born in Parkersburg, West Virginia but due to my fathers job moved around quite a
bit (several different states). Dad worked very hard and was only home on the weekends a lot of the times. My mother - a saint - was alone with all of us during the week. We were all very close in age and my mother did not have a car, so she would have to get a cab to take us to the doctor or church on holy days. I just don't know how she did it!
Memorable Moments: One of my favorite memories is when Dad would take turns on Saturdays taking us grocery shopping with him and then out to lunch at one of his local establishments for a sandwich and a sandwich and beer for Dad . Now that we are older we laugh about it thinking Dad loved to have his beer after a
long week of work, so was that lunch date really for us!! He would also on an occasion bring us home a gift, so we would go running to his room and wait for him to open his suitcase. And, on Valentines day we would all get a little box of candy. We also took vacations in the summer and all loaded up in the station wagon. Needless to say with five children it was a challenge!! Sunday mornings before church were also challenging for my parents as far as trying to get all of us dressed and ready to go without fighting. We lived in a small home and my three brothers would share a room and my sister and would share a room. So, it was always interesting. Another funny thing was Dad letting us borrow the company car to go out on weekends. With myself and my brothers you just never new what would happen with the car.
Other Comments: I'm not good at expressing myself or writing anything, so I wanted something funny and loving to say to them on their anniversary letting them know how much we love them them and appreciate them. It's truly a blessing reaching your 50th wedding anniversary
Style: Funny and loving...
Package Type: Deluxe
Last thoughts: Just make us look good! :) I want this to be very special. Thanks. Lisa

Hello Mom and Dad, ladies and gentlemen,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there's opportunity you should seize.
And that moment is upon us,
because 50 years ago, it was my parent's wedding day,
and I've got a few things on my mind,
there's a few heartfelt things I'd like to say.
Firstly, it's great that we're all together,
this must be the first time in many, many years,
what better time to share a few memories,
and remember the laughter (and the tears).
I'd like to begin by thanking Mom and Dad,
Steve, Sam, Craig, Karen and Lisa say "thank you",
we're very proud of who you are,
and we're very proud of what you do.
We really appreciate everything you've done for us,
and at times, we've been blown by the winds of fate,
but no matter what happened, you kept us fed and warm
even though we had to move from state to state.
We were born in Parkersburg, West Virginia,
it's where many a good tale starts it's story,
and Mom and Dad's is one to be proud of,
it's filled with love, dedication, hope and glory.
Dad of course worked very hard,
and was only here at weekends a lot of the times,
my mother - a saint - was alone with us in the week,
but still we all managed to work out our rhymes.
We were all very close in age,
and mother never had the luxury of a car,
so she'd get a cab for the doctor or for church,
and because of her we've really traveled far.
Dad would take us grocery shopping on a Saturday,
it was something he did, strangely, year after year,
I guess it was because he liked groceries,
and not because, afterwards, he'd take us for a beer.
He would also, on occasion, bring us home a gift,
we'd run to his room and wait for him to open his case,
it's always a wonderful and magical look,
that look of eager expectation on a child's face.
And, on Valentine's Day, we'd get a little box,
and then, simple candy was our heart's desire,
and then, as throughout our life,
his love kept on lifting us higher and higher.
Like our vacations in the summer time,
no matter where we roamed, we were in heaven,
and like our trips to church on a Sunday,
a station wagon would cram in the whole seven.
Mom would get up with us in the middle of the night,
when we were sick or just had leg aches,
she would stay there and rub my legs until I slept,
in fact, she's always known just what it takes.
I remember Dad also comforting me,
I'd lost my front teeth and I was crying,
he removed his flipper to show me his gap,
and he cured me miraculously (without even trying).
We lived in a pretty small home,
but there was a lot of love held inside,
and we couldn't have picked finer parents,
we couldn't - even if we'd tried.
It was always a challenge to get us dressed in the morning,
especially, without us getting into a fight,
but as always, our parents showed us the way,
throughout our lives they've been our guiding light.
Later on, Dad would lend us the company car,
there must have been times when his heart was in his mouth,
because he never knew what would happen,
and whether we'd driven North, East, West or South.
And that line sums them both up nicely,
because they've let us find our way on our own,
but at the same time, they've surrounded us with their love,
and we're very grateful for all the kindness that they've shown.
And we are who we are because of them,
and we really do appreciate that kindness and their love,
and we feel blessed to have them in our lives,
in fact, we feel blessed from the heavens above.
So we'd just like to thank them,
that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Mom and Dad, you're our NEWS,
and here's to at least another fifty more. |
