Who do you want the poem written for: My Step Mum, Pat Mills

Why do you want the poem written: It's her 60th Birthday on the 7th june, and all the friends and family we are compiling a book to celebrate her life. I thought it would be nice for her to receive a poem from all the Step-Children. I am submitting this on everybodies behalf.

What are the key messages you would like to send: Selfless. Always ensuring everybody else is ok, before taking care of > herself. Always giving sound and un-biased advice. Couldn't wish for a better stepmother.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise
memorable moments that you would like to share: My Sister Debbie recalls that when my Dad and Pat decided to get married, Pat thought she would take her to Truro, in Cornwall to get some suitable clothing for the 'Big Day'. Un-beknown to Pat debs is not the easiest of people to satisfy. After spending 6 long hours in numerous shops, she decided to have the dress of which was the first dress in the first shop (obviously a woman thing). The same was repeated when my Brother John got married. Only this time it was further away in plymouth! When I joined the RAF in 1990,I was pleased with myself that I was actually trying to achieve something in my life. Half way through training I made a memorable phone call and spoke to Pat and she was the only person, that I recall, saying that she was proud of me! That I'll
never forget. The day of my passing out Parade was looming and she reminded me again. Pat has the habit, gift of making people feel some self worth.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Try not to be name specific. After all this is from a number of people.

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: At times when members of the family have had no place to live, they have always turned to Pat, and Pat being Pat, she would never turn them away. Even if it means giving up her own bed. She has always excepted her stepchildrens partners, and continues to treat them like her own. Now they have children of their own, and they couldn't wish for a better Granny.

I think that is pretty much all I have to say. It's very difficult to express how we all feel towards her. I'll leave that to you.

A Wonderful Gift

Hello, our wonderful Pat, these words are just for you, because we're proud of who you are, and we're very proud of what you do. And we just wanted to say "we love you", but in truth, we didn't know where to start, so we thought we'd share a few feelings, and give you some words, straight from the heart. Firstly, we'll begin by looking skywards, and thanking those in the heavens above, because we know we've been blessed to have shared you, we know that we've been blessed with your love. And this little book is a special compilation, actually, it's the perfect celebration of your life, because you've been a simply wonderful stepmother, and of course, you've been a loving and devoted wife. You're so selfless. You're considerate and kind, and you always ensure that everybody else is okay, you always give sound and unbiased advice, (after listening carefully to what we've had to say). We couldn't have wished for a better Stepmother, actually, you're one of the finest to walk on this Earth, and we know and appreciate your true and honest value, yes Pat, we know exactly what your love is really worth. We also know that you like your shopping, although it can be difficult to find the right dress, but we also know that persistence always pays off, and that's why you've filled our lives with such happiness. Because you have persistently and consistently loved us, and it seems like 'you' is always the last thing on your mind, you have this wonderful gift of being able to inspire, and we know that's a treasure and so very hard to find. You have this habit, no, like we said, it's a wonderful gift, you have an ability to put the air under people's wings, and a few words from you can make our hearts soar, but that's only part of the magic that Patricia brings.
