80th Birthday poem to Grandma from her grandaughter who thanks her for supporting her in everything in her life
What is your name: Melissa Mellor
Who do you want the poem written for: My grandmother
Why do you want the poem written: Grandmother's 80th birthday
What are the key messages you would like to send: Thank her for her support of my endeavors (school, marriage, motherhood). Thank her for her calm, reassuring assistance when I've gone through difficult times. I admire her for her determination to obtain a college degree after she was married and had three children--something unheard of at the time. Her home was a second home to me growing up--I looked forward to going to Fayette with my dad to stay on the weekends and during the summer. My grandma has had physical ailments, but never complains. She just accepts them as being part of her lot in life.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Her 80th birthday party will be a celebration of her life. She is humble, and does not want a big deal to be made about her--that's the way she is--humble and unassuming.
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy
Please choose which package you would prefer :Standard
Would you like a copy of the handwritten drafts: No
Do you have any last comments or thoughts: My grandma loved my grandpa very much. I know she misses him (he died years ago). He was a jokester, and she just went along with his jokes (she was definitely the more serious one. My grandpa had a quick wit that always left people guessing, but she was always on to him). Her most difficult time in life was when my dad (her oldest son) died in 1997. I know my dad loved her very much, and he admired her for all the sacrifices she made for their family. (My grandpa was a farmer and ran a local business, but my grandma was the breadwinner. She was a school teacher). I was very close to my dad. The respect he had for his mom (my grandma), made me want to be like her. Although my grandma is not the type of person to rock the boat, she can be very determined.
Lot In Life
Hello, my wonderful grandmother,
these words are just for you,
because we're proud of who you are,
and we're very proud of what you do.
And I just wanted to say "I love you",
but in truth, I didn't know where to start,
so I thought I'd share a few feelings,
and give you some words, straight from the heart.
Firstly, I'd like to begin by looking skywards,
and thanking those in the heavens above,
because I know I've been blessed to have shared you,
I know that I have been blessed with your love.
Throughout school, marriage and motherhood,
through all my endeavors, you've been there for me,
and I'd like to thank you for your calming reassurance,
and your love has made my world a great place to be.
I know I've had my share of difficult times,
but I guess life is never really a rose filled dream,
I know that you still love and miss grandpa very much,
you two really did make a remarkable team.
He was the jokester (you've always been serious),
but you just went along with many a jape,
he had a quick wit that always left people guessing,
but you were always onto him (there was no escape).
I admire you for your determination to get a degree,
you were married with three children (unheard of at the time),
and your home was my second one when I was growing up,
it was at your house where I got the words to rhyme.
I always looked forward to going to Fayette with my dad
during the summer, we'd stay on the weekends,
and we shared so many wonderful times together,
we weren't grandmother, granddaughter, we were friends.
You never complain about your physical ailments,
you just accept them as being part of your lot in life,
but that's just you, so humble and unassuming,
but you're a great grandmother, mother (and still, wife).
I know it was so difficult when Dad died,
it seems a long time ago now, it was 1997,
but I'm sure he's up there with grandpa,
they're probably having a great time, there in heaven
I also know my dad loved you very much,
he admired you for all the sacrifices you'd made,
not only did you keep home and house together,
but it was the breadwinner's role that you played.
As you know, I was very close to my dad,
the respect he had for you was second to none,
and that made me want to be like you,
because your love has been like our morning sun.
Although you're not the type of person to rock the boat,
you can still get a very determined look on your face,
but we all just wanted to thank you for being you,
you've made this world a much finer place.
And when I talked about your lot in life,
well, you've given us a lot in life, and then some more,
and we just wanted to say Happy 80th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for. |
