A 30th birthday gift to a sister, the poem verses are to provide captions for photographs in an album that has been put together over the past year

What is your name : Kym Goddard

Who do you want the poem written for: My sister Jeannine

Why do you want the poem written: Jeannine is turning 30 on the 20th of December this year. I have put a photo album together and to finish it of, I would love to have a poem that works with these photos. This would be the first time a family member has done something meaningful like this.

What are the key messages you would like to send: I have put together a photo album of my sister who is turning the big 30 on the 20th of December 2004. So I only have a few days to put some meaningful and inspirational words to these photos. Thankfully I have found your site for some much needed help. I am hoping to match the poem to the photos. The order of the photos is as follows: ? Jeannine Kelly Goddard born on December 20th 1974. Jeannine is the second eldest of three children. Our older brother Matthew steven Goddard (2 years older) and myself Kym maree Goddard (5 years younger).? Jeannine was mum and dads 'little ray of sunshine'(as the song goes). Dad use to call jeannine buttons because of her little button nose. She was born with dark hair however in these photos she is appx 2 yrs , her hair is blonde and she has hazel eyes. She was and still is a real character, easy going and nearly always happy. As a child she loved to run around with no clothes on, mum remembers her tipping a bowl of food onto her head, she was a real grub. She learnt to tie her shoelaces at a very young age with the help of a big toy shoe. She had her favorite pet toy aardvark. And she loved to help mum cook using her own cookie man (utensil holder in the shape of a man). ? The next page of photos is of jeannine and her brother matt as children playing together. I would like some words to represent a brothers love for his sister. We love each other so much however we (especially Matt) tend to hide our feelings a lot.? Then there are photos of me (kym maree Goddard) and Jeannine 'nean' as I call her. Im sitting in a bucket of water next to a small round pool. The bucket was to rinse your feet however I would never hop in the pool with nean and she would get so frustarted. I would just swim in the bucket. Nean and I were typical sisters we use to fight a fair bit. Mum and dad would let us fight in the middle of the lounge room. I had a bad temper would throw the nearest thing to me and when fighting nean I would give it all I had and nean would hold back, until one day she punched me a beauty, I don't think I was to keen to fight her again after that. She was always a good sister. Protective of me most of the time. I loved to stir or as nean would say 'annoy' nean.? As a teenager jeannine had big boobs (still does). We would walk home from school and this one day council guys yelled out 'show us your tits' well just to embarrass her, which I tried often and often succeeded, I yelled back 'show us your dick first' I think I was in grade four at the time!? I also told her high school sweet heart and now husband 'Paul do you know what? Jeannine has fur! Down there! Jeannine was at the kissing and holding hands stage and I was trying to get back at her for something and I certainly got the reaction I was after from that comment. Thank god I didn't have to deal with a younger sister!? I then have a high school photo. Nean went through a stage as a teenager when she would dress all in black and lock herself in her room and listen to weird music. Her and her friends used to go to some house on weekends that they called the 'snake pit'. Her friends knew her as NOO. ? Nean left school after completing her senior. School for nean was a social event! ? Nean started seeing her high school sweetheart in her early twenties Paul Marshall whom was to become her future husband. Some words of love and relationships would fit well. Nean had come out of a few unsuccessful relationships however through this time Paul was always around and her love for him had always been really strong. When paul proposed to nean it was anything but romantic. They were driving along in the car when Paul said out of the blue 'so will ya' will I what? Nean replied 'will ya marry me'.Thats paul all over. Blunt, but deep down a big soft cuddly bear.? Nean had a successful job as assistant manager in a retail store however she was always one to want children. Paul and nean had a beautiful baby boy Braiden James Marshall on November 11th 1997.? Times become very challenging for nean and paul and the family when we discovered Braided had cystic fibrosis. This was heart breaking for all of us. Nean stayed as strong as she could. She coped with doing physio daily and dealing with the other requirements for CF. Luckily Braiden has been fortunate not having any hospital visits as yet and he is doing great.? The picture I have of braiden is as a toddler. He has two big front teeth standing in a pair of extra large mens work boots he looks so cute. He has a cute grin smiling at the camera.? The next photo is then of Nean, paul, Braiden and there next child Jacob liam marshall, born on November 3rd 1999 . ? The next photo is of Jacob as a toddler climbing on top of the bed head with his nappy on. He has his usual cheeky mischievous grin. Jacob was a real handful for nean in his first few years.? Nean went though a really hard time suffering anxiety and depression. She has battled through these times, moved to a new town and over the past year has grown in so many ways and she is back to her happy, relaxed self. ? I then have random photos of the boys (braiden and Jacob) growing up. They are now seven and five. The are true blue boys! The next photo is of nean and her three best mates Shandelle, Jodie and Deanna. These four have been friends for many of years. I guess a few words about friendship and the value of friendship would be great here. The second last photo is of the Goddard family. Mum, Dad, Matt, Nean and Me (kym). A few words about family. I guess sometimes it feels we are absorbed in our own lives even though we live so close we may not get to see each other a whole lot. ? The last photo is of nean at appx 1year old. She is standing on the back verandah with a singlet on and no pants she is standing next to a big pumpkin with a stem attached. We have always teased nean about this photo as it captures her just about to sit on the pumpkin stem, Ouch! This album is for a sister, daughter, wife and mother who has always given her everything to her friends and family. Jeannine is a beautiful person with a big heart. She lacks confidence some days however people love to be around her as she is patient, non judgmental, funny, easy going and very thoughtful of others.

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: I am a little concerned that the order of my photos is going to make it hard for you to come up with one poem. I am more than happy to have many smaller poems throughout the album to match the photo's.

Making Pictures

We've shared so many wonderful memories,
in truth, there's too many to individually list,
just know that each and every one is simply precious,
and there's not one that we would have missed.

And as you know, the clock keeps on ticking,
being thirty, these are words you will surely understand,
so I've created this album to preserve those memories,
to protect them from the falling grains of sand:

So, here's your very first camera smile,
taken on December 20th, nineteen seventy four,
you were the second eldest of three children,
and I guess you will now be for evermore.

You were always mum and dad's "little ray of sunshine",
Dad used to call you "buttons" because of your nose,
and although you were born with beautiful dark hair,
it was to be blonde, with hazel eyes, that you chose.

You were (and still are) a real character,
nearly always happy and so easy going,
you used to run around with no clothes on,
but you've always liked doing a little showing.

Mum remembers you being a bit of a grub,
and you tipping a bowl of food on your head,
you learned to tie your shoelaces at an early age,
and I think the big toy shoe was colored red.

How could we forget your pet Aardvark?
And you used to help mum with her cooking plan,
you used to like making your cookie people,
but actually, they were all shaped like a man.

And these photos show your love for Matt,
you love him now and I guess you always did,
and these photos show your true feelings,
especially Matt, with his thoughts no longer hid.

Now, here's the photos of me in the bucket,
some of the happiest times that've ever been,
and even though you got frustrated with me,
I was always happy if was just me and Nean.

Of course, we were just typical sisters,
and there were occasions when we fought,
but that was until the day you didn't hold back,
and that was an important lesson that you taught.

Actually, you've always been a very good sister,
you were protective of me, but I loved to stir (or annoy),
and ever since your teens, you've had big boobs,
so no one could have mistaken you for a boy!

"Show us your tits" the workmen would yell,
and "show us your dick first" I yelled back,
and then I told Paul that you had fur "down there",
thankfully, I didn't take you both off your lifelong track.

But then you went through the "black" period,
and it was quite amazing what you used to do,
dressed in black, locked in your room, weird music,
and all your friends at the snake pit called you NOO.

You left school after completing your senior,
but really, for you, school was one big social event,
and despite a few troubling relationships,
Paul returned to your life (and was probably heaven sent).

"So will ya?" "Will I what?"
Not the most romantic proposal on planet Earth,
typical Paul, blunt, but deep down a big soft cuddly bear,
and ever since, you've known his true and honest worth.

Braiden James Marshall halted your retail career,
but his news left us all with our hearts a breaking,
but here, you can see his two big front teeth,
and he's always had a face that's ready for the taking.

And then Jacob Liam Marshall joined the family,
and as you can see, he liked having his nappy on,
as usual, he is grinning slightly mischievously,
in those first years, didn't know his right from wrong.

And I know you had your share of dank and dark days,
but happily, you have battled through those times,
and in this past year, you've grown in so many ways,
and that's just one the reasons for these rhymes.

And here's a medley of Braiden and Jacob,
true blue boys in just about every way,
and they've helped to make your sun shine again,
but we still have a few more heartfelt words left to say:

Because here's Shandelle, Jodie and Deanna,
and rightly, we had to fit them in before this ends,
because you've all discovered the value of true friendship,
and for many years, you've been solid and trusted friends.

And no album would be complete without this picture,
Mum, Dad, Matt, Nean and Kym, our family,
and we just wanted to thank you for being you,
you've made our worlds a much better place to be.

And I know that we get absorbed in our own lives,
we live so close but we still live quite far apart,
but that doesn't mean we're not in each other's thoughts,
it doesn't mean that we're not in each other's heart.

And that brings us nicely to the very last photo,
and excuse me, if I cough and clear my throat of phlegm,
because there you are, with your singlet and no pants on,
and it looks like you're about to sit on that pumpkin stem.

Ouch! Maybe that's why some days you lack confidence,
but trust me, people like you for just who you are,
and if our collective love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.

Because you're a sister, a daughter, a wife and a mother,
and we'd all like to thank you for the roles that you've played,
you're patient, non judgmental, funny, easy going, thoughtful,
and just look at all the beautiful pictures that you've made.

And we all just wanted to say "we love you",
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Jeannine, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to us making pictures, for evermore.
