What are the key messages you would like to send: To tell my husband (our anniversary is on the 2nd of October) how much I love him and how lucky I feel to wake up next to him every morning and go to bed with him every night. We have had a wonderful first year, and although your typical growing pains - we always have meaningful conversations while trying to figure out our future together. He listens to me, puts up with me and supports me whenever I need it. He always helps around the house and I want him to know how much I appreciate this and him for all he does for me. I also want him to know that I will always support him and that I love being a member of his family. That I look forward to a lifetime of anniversaries, birthdays, holidays and more with him. I want him to know I know how much he loves me and hope he knows how much I love him.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: My family took us to Ireland - where he had been planning to propose. We left the family for 2 nights to go to Galway - the city where the Claddaugh ring originated (he had done his research, as he didn't want to bring his grandmother's engagement ring to Ireland). As we wrote postcards he pretended to go buy stamps and instead bought the ring. That night he said he never slept and stared at the ceiling. We were going to one of the Aran Islands and were going to visit Dun Angus - a huge cliff. He insisted we ride bikes instead of take horses, walk, or take the small van they had on the island. I had my new Irish wool sweater, and a jacket. It got hot as the morning went on, so I put my sweater on the handle bars. We were peddling up the hills and I was getting grumpy. Next thing I knew my bike flipped over and I was in a ditch crying (the sweater got tangled in the spokes). Poor Shane couldn't believe that his romantic plan was now in the ditch with me crying. I was more embarassed then hurt. Well, he was super sweet and we finally made it up to Dun Angus - which is breathtaking
He was tkaing photos and small 3 minute video and as I was looking off into the Atlantic, he asked me to describe what I was looking at. Well, I went on and on about the clouds, water, tide, cliffs, sun, shadows rocks, and you ge the idea. The poor guy was on one knee while the jaged rocks were drilling into his skin and he was holding the claddaugh he had purchased. He then finally said look over here and tell me what you see - there was the ring - and he told me he was in love with me (which he said he never had said - only I love you, never in love) and asked me to be with him for the rest of his life. Of course i said yes and I cried and all the tourists wanted to know what had happened. the ride back was smooth and I was super happy and in love. Oh and the claddaugh has a heart in it (a heart, crown, and hands - which mean love, loyalty and friendship) - I though at first he had bought me a heart shaped diamond and was really disappointed. Then he explained what he had done - when we got back to Atlanta he showed me his Grandmother's ring and we were going to get it redone.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts : Our pet names are pooks or pookers (can go wither way). He has an evil laugh you can recognize from across the room - but it also is super adorable. He can be very romantic and super sweet. We had a celtic wedding - men wore kilts. I wear his grandmother's engagement and wedding band - as well as I wore her wedding dress. Shane thinks he is Scottish - and although there is a little bit of Scott in him - he is mainly German and Czech. It is kind of a running joke with me and his friends. Also, one of the things we have grown to love together and will continue to do so, is collect arts and crafts antiques - we love the mission look. Shane also loves Ginkgo trees and gives a tree to each friend or family who buys a new house.
And one of the biggest thing that we love together is big dogs - I have a 100lb Golden and he had (passed away this year) a 140lb Mastiff - a small mention of losing our furry friend would be nice. He has been thinking of opening a pet store - with high end all natural products - we are not so sure that will happen - but our true passion is dogs.
We also have known each other since college - met my freshman year at Emory. we were best friends - he saw me through my heart aches and I saw as he went through girl after girl (not the committing type). We never had anything romantic but spent a lot of time together just hanging out and partying. Then I moved to Houston and didn't see each other for a while. We then saw each other after a year or so at a wedding - next thing we knew we were long distance dating and then he asked me to move in and I quit my job and sold my house and moved back to Atlanta. We know everything about each other since the age of 18 and 20. I hated Houston. Sorry for going on and on - but this should give you enough to write a poem. Thanks and please feel free to call me with questions. Sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I am writing this fast as I am at work. Thanks for your help and time on this! I look forward to reading the first draft.
A Gift of Type
As you know, it?s our one year anniversary,
and I?ve really enjoyed our first year together,
and I?ve been struggling to get you something affordable and memorable,
a type of gift that we?ll treasure and cherish forever.
And I guess I was running our of options,
to be honest, I didn?t know the where to begin or even start,
but then I thought: What about sharing a few feelings,
what if I gave Shane some thoughts from the heart.
So I?ll try and keep this goofy playful and love like,
because I think that describes our marriages very well,
because I want you to know how much I love you,
I love you very much (I hope by now you can surely tell).
I feel lucky to wake up to you every morning,
I feel even luckier to go to bed with you every night,
and it?s been a wonderful first year despite our growing pains,
and throughout, our love has shone so consistently bright.
We always have such meaningful conversations,
especially when we try and figure what the future has in store,
you listen to me most times, you put up with me,
and I know I?ll always have your support for evermore.
Thanks for always helping around the house,
in truth, I?d like to thank you for everything you?ve ever done,
because your love have been my light, my inspiration,
in every way, you?ve been like my morning sun.
I also want you to know that I will always support you,
and that I simply love being a member of your family,
and Shane, I just wanted to thank you for being you,
truly, you?ve made my world a great place to be.
I?m looking forward to a lifetime of celebration,
as I know, we?ll celebrate every Smilestone along the way,
I also know how much that I love me,
and that really is quite a delightful thing to say.
Because I know it hasn?t always been easy,
and life, well, every so often it doesn?t go as you?ve planned,
and romantic proposals can get ditched,
but I think those are words only me and you will understand.
But we?ve climbed our mountains (and cliff) along the way,
and I?ve described to you what?s here, in my very soul,
because in that moment, when I said ?yes?,
I?d never felt more in love, never felt more completely whole.
And fittingly, the claddaugh has a heart in it,
the heart, crown and hands mean that we?ll be forever friends,
and pooks, I mean pookers, I know I?ll love you forever,
long after our earthbound journeys have their ends.
Look, you have an evil laugh you can hear across any room,
but that and you are so adorable, you?re both very sweet,
and for a Scottish German Czech, well,
I can?t think of a finer one I?d wish to meet.
And I wanted to thank you for our wonderful wedding,
that was a solid foundation for our memories to be built,
and I was proud to wear your grandmother?s dress,
and at last! I now know what a Scotsman wears under his kilt.
And we?ve grown to love our antique, arts and crafts,
and I know you also have a passion for Ginkgo trees,
and may be one day, we?ll follow our passion and do something dodgy,
because in life, passion is an opportunity you should seize.
And I?m sorry we lost our not so little furry friend, Kessel,
but we?ve shared so much since my freshman year,
it seems like we know everything about each other,
and that?s really why we have nothing left to fear.
Because I am who I am because of you,
and I guess, well, you?re just who you are,
but Shane, if my love for you were a distance,
well, it would be further than the furthest star.
And I just wanted to say ?Happy 1st Anniversary?,
There, I think that?s said it, without too much hype,
and I wanted to say thank you, I love you very much,
so there you have it, my gift of type. |
