A Gift of Poetry to remember why we fell in love in the first place!
What is your name : Kali
Who do you want the poem written for: Joseph (husband)
Why do you want the poem written: We've been married for almost nine years, but have been together for twelve. We're trying to start anew, after years of forgetting who we both were as individuals and what we meant to each other. We need to remember why we fell in love in the first place and learn new things about each other now, building on trust, appreciation, and inspiration.
What are the key messages you would like to send: That God has a plan for us, that we need to let him work in our lives. To let go of stubbornness and insecurities. To express true heartfelt longing, to become or remain interconnected, and being sincerely content that as a couple and a family we are fulfilling our purpose.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: How he used to help me with homework in college, being proposed to in the rain and feeling giddy and excited about telling our parents and the rest of the world, the silly surprises he used to leave me, feeling scared together about my health, dealing with death in our families, laughing at absurdities-- such as changing words to songs, turning cartwheels on the "square", dancing until we're both really sweaty (especially me), getting lost every time we go on a trip, how our son (Paul) is a "clone" of him (looks)--but how he's inherited his big heart and true grit for life, how I admire him for his hard work and dedication
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: That we can have our own special definition of love---that we hold on. That we have so many things to hold on to that are priceless. That we need to remember but also "let go" at the same time.
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): inspirational, romantic, grateful, adoration/admiration
Let Us Be
We've been together for twelve years now,
and our married years almost number nine,
but now is our time to start anew, start afresh,
and there's a lot of meaning in just the one line.
Because we spent years forgetting who we were,
and we forgot what we meant to one another,
we got ourselves lost in our busy lives,
and when we went searching, we'd run for cover.
We need to remember why we fell in love,
and we need to rekindle that initial spark,
we need to share our light, our love, our lives,
and that way we can then illuminate the dark.
Let us learn new things about life,
but most importantly, let's learn about us,
let's share our appreciation and inspiration,
and let us keep building our mutual trust.
I know that God has a plan for both of us,
and that plan is destined to last forever,
because I know how I want to spend eternity,
it'll be me and you, hand in hand, together.
So let us let God work His majestic magic,
we need to let Him work Himself into our lives,
if we let go of our stubbornness and insecurity,
well, that's where true love always survives.
Let us both show our true heartfelt longing,
and let us together, once again, become the one,
let's be truly content as a couple and a family,
let us, once again, bask in the morning sun.
And then surely, we will find contentment,
and we will live out our purpose here on Earth,
because Joseph, I do know your true and honest value,
yes, I know exactly what my husband's love is really worth.
I remember how you used to help with homework in college,
and of course, I'll never forget your proposal in the rain,
I remember feeling giddy and excited about telling the world,
and to be honest, I want to feel those feelings, once again.
I remember the silly surprises you used to leave me,
and with your love, I had no need for material wealth,
we've both had to deal with death in our families,
and I remember how scared we felt about my health.
I also remember our laughing at absurdities,
and how we'd change the words to a song,
I remember us doing cartwheels on the "square",
I remember how terrifically we used to get along.
We'd dance until we were both really sweaty,
and I must admit, afterwards, I never felt really "hip",
and together, we've traveled and seen so much,
probably because we got ourselves lost on every trip.
Not surprisingly, Paul is a true clone of you,
and truly he is our dreams personified,
and I know he couldn't have chosen a finer father,
I know he couldn't - even if he'd tried.
I know that he's also inherited your big heart,
and he also shares your determination, your true grit for life,
I wanted you to know I admire your hard work and dedication,
Joseph, I'm still very proud to be called your wife.
The things that we share are so very priceless,
so we need to remember and let go at the same time,
because we can have our own special definition of love,
it's still not too late to find the reason in our rhyme.
I also wanted to say "Let Us Be",
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Joseph, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore. |

"Mr. Jesson--
Wow! That's amazing! I really don't think that I want to change anything, so I guess we can go on to the next step. I can't believe it, I just wish that I could have come up with those words on my own....but that's why I contacted you.
