Poem to a Brother on his 40th Birthday from his sister, saying how much she loves him, and how proud she is of him

What is your name : Debbie Polcari

Who do you want the poem written for: My Brother, Joseph

Why do you want the poem written: His 40th Birthday. To share with him how proud I am of him and how much I love him.

What are the key messages you would like to send: I want to tell him how proud I am of him, of what he has accomplished. Our Mother was killed in a car accident when he was 15 years old (I was 17) and we have overcome hardships in our family. (Our Sister passed away from breast cancer at 38, our father has passed away.) Joe married a woman with 2 children and together they had another 2...he has raised all of the children as his own. He has struggled with jobs, but has accomplished alot in the past several years. His own home and a new mercedes for his 40th (a gift to himself!). I want Joe to know how much I love him and that I, and his brothers/sisters are proud of him and that our parents would be proud of the man he has become, they are watching over him and his family.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: The terrible fights we had as children -- over corderoy jeans (he would wear mine!!). How I "lost" him for several years (he went down the wrong path) but how I never gave up on him and saw him fight back to become the man he is today. How he ALWAYS has to have the best of everything!! If he doesn't eat when he's hungry he is unbearable to live with!

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): Happy, celebration of his life

A Matter Of Fact

Hello, Joseph, my wonderful brother,
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and I'm very proud of what you do.

And I just wanted to say "I love you",
but in truth, I didn't know where to start,
so I thought I'd share a few feelings,
and give you some words, they're straight from the heart.

Firstly, I'd like to begin by looking skywards,
and thanking those in the heavens above,
because I know I've been blessed to have shared you,
I know that I've been blessed with your love.

To be honest, I wanted to say "I'm proud of you",
in truth, I'm proud of everything you've ever done,
your love has been my light, my inspiration,
in every way, you've been like my morning sun.

We both lost our mother when we were still teenagers,
and it's always the hardest, when you love your Mom,
but I know that today, she's looking down on you,
and she too, well, she's also proud of who you've become.

I know that Dad and Sis are also very proud,
they're proud of what you've done and who you are,
and if our collective love for you were a distance,
well, then it would be further than the furthest star.

We've overcome many hardships in our family,
and there are many loved ones that we've lost,
and I know some wouldn't have carried that weight,
and others would have struggled under such an impost.

But you've pulled your shoulders back and stood tall,
and when the going got tough, you did what you could,
and from your very soul, there burns a bright light,
and it shines out, what emanates from you is only good.

You've raised four beautiful children,
and you treat them all as if they're all your own,
and I know that they too love you dearly,
they're very grateful for the love that you've shown.

I know you've struggled a lot with jobs,
but you've accomplished a lot, in recent years,
you're survived the trauma and the tragedy,
and now laughter is replacing the many tears.

You've certainly deserved your new Mercedes,
and unlike the jeans, I promise I won't fight you over that,
because I'm very proud of you, I love you,
there it is, a plain and simple matter of fact.

It's so sad that I "lost" you for a couple of years,
but I know you'd come good, sometime when,
I never gave up on you and I saw you fight back,
and it's great to see you standing tall, once again.

Look, I know you're far from perfect,
if you're hungry you're unbearable to live with,
and you always have to have the best of everything,
but the best thing is you've taught me how to give.

Because you've given me so much in my life,
you've given me proof that the bad guys don't always win,
and I just wanted to say "we're proud of you",
but in truth, I just didn't know where to begin.
So, I'll finish by saying Happy 40th Birthday
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Joseph, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.
