A Thank you gift to her loving, caring and generous in-laws

What is your name : Betsy Wallace

Who do you want the poem written for: Tom and Nell Wallace (my in-laws)

Why do you want the poem written: To thank them for so many things they have done for me and my son. They are the most loving, generous, caring people I know.

What are the key messages you would like to send: Ok I've tried to write to them several time to express the gratitude and thankfulness I feel for everything they have done for me and my son. They have made me feel very special and have welcomed me and my son into their family with open arms. I also want them to know how special they are to me and how lucky I am to have them as part of my family.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: A few things;Tom and Nell have a decorative hanging plate in their kitchen that has the names and a stick figure of all their grandchildren. About four months before Dan and I got married, they ordered another plate exactly the same except they added my son's name, Jake to the plate. Last September, I was hit by a bus and was immobile for awhile. Dan was working and couldn't take time off work. Nell, who is a nurse, came down from Sacramento to take care of me. She was wonderful! During winter break a couple weeks ago, they took care of Jake and Jaxon (Dan's son) for a week. They took them to "Disney on Ice", shopping, movies and many more fun things.
For our wedding, they gave us a gorgeous upright Piano. Our wedding was in Maui and our families flew there to attend. Tom and Nell were very helpful and supportive. They also gave us two night stay at the Grand Wailea.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Some background: Dan, their son, and I were married Jan. 15, 2005 in Maui, Hi. This is both our second marriage, he has two children and I have one from previous marriages. Dan is the most wonderful husband and father alive and I love him with all my heart. I met Tom and Nell a year and a half ago during a family vacation in Tahoe. I didn't know anyone and their warmth and kindness made me feel like family right away. Since then they have given have been extremely generous, not only to me but to my son as well. When Dan and I bought a house, they gave us money for our patio furniture as well as other things around the house. For Christmas, they gave Dan and I a weekend vacation at the Delta King, plus several gift cards to Nordstrom's, Borders Books, etc. etc.. They gave my son, Jake, a mini iPod and many other things. I realize this may sound like it's all about money, but it's not. They are the sweetest, kindest people I know. Nell always compliments me and tells me how happy she is I'm marrying her son. She also tells me that she hasn't seen Dan this happy in a very long time. Hope this makes sense. Please email me or call if you have any questions or need more details. Thanks so much in advance,Betsy

Outlawed

Hello, my wonderful "in-laws",
these words are just for you,
because I'm proud of who you are,
and I'm very proud of what you do.

Firstly, I'd like to begin by looking skywards,
and thanking those in the heavens above,
because I know I've been blessed to have shared you,
I know that I've been blessed with your love.

You are the most caring, generous, loving people I know,
and I'd like to thank you for everything you've ever done,
I'd especially like to just thank you for being you,
and for the many things you have done for me and my son.

Do you know, I've tried to write several times?
I wanted to express the gratitude I feel inside,
because I know I couldn't have chosen finer in-laws,
I know I couldn't - even if I'd tried.

You have made me feel so very special,
you've have wrapped me within your many charms,
I feel so very lucky to be a part of your family,
I feel so grateful for your warm, open, welcoming arms.

I guess I've never really told you this,
but do you know just how special you are?
Because if your "specialness" were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.

The loving plates on your kitchen wall say it all,
they typify the extra care that you always take,
and then, oh so very lovingly and thoughtfully,
you added an extra one (and his name is Jake).

Do you know how welcome that made us feel?
It made us both feel that we were truly home grown,
and we wanted to thank you for your kindness,
we're very grateful for all the love that you've shown.

That unconditional love nursed me back to health,
and for the second time, it felt like I'd been hit by a bus,
because you flew down from Sacramento to care for me,
and you did it all, with the absolute minimum of fuss.

You gave Jake and Jaxon the break of their dreams,
one of the highlights was undoubtedly Disney On Ice,
and then there was shopping, movies and other fun things,
never have two grandparents been more generous (or half as nice).

Actually, your generosity simply knows no bounds,
and there's been too many gifts to individually list,
just know that each and everyone is simply precious,
and the memories we've shared I would've never missed.

I know that this is "second time around" for Dan and I,
but as we found, life is not always a rose filled dream,
but now, we're truly happy (and Dan is simply wonderful),
and together, we really do make a magnificent team.

Dan is the most wonderful husband and father alive,
and truly, I love him with all my heart and soul,
and with you all in my life, I feel complete,
at last, I do feel so completely whole.

Your warmth and kindness is a part of that wholeness,
from day one, you've made me feel like family right away,
and although your generosity has been simply bountiful,
I do have just one last heartfelt thing to say:

You have given Dan and I so much in such a short time,
and they are gifts that we will always surely treasure,
but more importantly, you've given us your blessing,
and your love means that we have wealth beyond measure.

I also think the term "in-laws" should be outlawed,
because in the law of life, I love you with all my heart,
and I just wanted to say that "I'm proud of you"
but in truth, I just didn't know where to start.

So I'll finish by saying a simple "thank you",
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Tom and Nell, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.
