Father's Day Poem - From son to father who is ill.

What is your name : Aaron "Frank" Kilman

Who do you want the poem written for: Dad

Why do you want the poem written: For Fathers Day
and I'm so afraid my father would be gone without me saying what is on my mind and how I've loved being with him.

What are the key messages you would like to send: I'd like to say how much I idolize him him, how much I love him, how much I appreciate having him close by to ask advice, and to spend time with. (He is now gone for 3 months to do chemotherapy due to lung cancer. We will go up and visit him in july on my birthday). Seems like the longest he's been away from home (me). However before he started our jewelry business he would be gone sometimes weeks with his jobe at McDonell Douglas. I look back at how much my brother and I have accomplished in our lives and I give him the credit as well as my moms. They've been married close to 40 years.
Lasting impression: What he means to me. His ability to lead at home as well as the jewelry business.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Funny: The time we spent all day fishing caught a stringer of fish and I lost it all. Dad was very upset. I was sad for a long time till I realized it wasn't that important as just spending time together. So I began thinking how funny it was.
Happy: Trips in the car and getting a hotel with a "pool." Dad would travel forever just to look for a pool my brother (Joe) and I could swim in.
Embarassing: Every time you'd pick me up from school in that old beat up car (Renault). It did make me appreciate all that I have and work hard for.
Memorable Moments. The time you came home from work a new man because you said you were born again and Jesus has now entered your life (about 30 years ago).

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: Since you've been a christian you seemed kinder, closer, said I love you more, spent more time with my brother, mom, and I. It seemed to have given you the courage to start a business and quit your old job. This gave us more time as a family to be together. You don't know what that has ment to me. It gave me the courage to follow in your footsteps and do the same. You're a fabulous grandfather (papa). Grandma is a fabulous grandma (bopa).
My wife and I are expecting now and we can't wait till the baby meets it's Papa and Bopa so you can instill the same excitment of just being with there grandparents. The same you instilled in our 2 daughters now 6yrs (Kenzie) and 8yrs (Arlie) old.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): funny but emotional.

Please choose which package you would prefer : Deluxe

Would you like a copy of the handwritten drafts : Yes

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: My dad needs to know how much we are praying for his quick recovery during his bought with lung cancer. I think abouth him practically every hour.

The Stringer of Fish

Hey, Dad, I know, at times, life can be great,
and then at others, it can be quite cruel and unkind,
and because of your recent battles,
well, they?ve brought quite a few things to mind.

Like the time we spent all day fishing,
we?d been quite successful and had a stringer of fish,
but then I went and lost the lot, you were quite upset,
and I was sad for a while, with many a forlorn wish.

That was until I realized it wasn?t important,
what was is that we?d spent the time together,
so then I started thinking how funny it was,
and now we?ve got a memory, that?ll last forever and ever.

I?ll never forget you always getting a hotel with a pool,
just for Joe and I, you?d drive for hours and hours,
and I?ve learned so much from you,
like count the pennies, but always smell the flowers.

Every time you?d pick me up from school in that Renault,
well, it made me appreciate everything you?ve done,
because your love has been my light, my inspiration,
in every way, you?ve been like my morning sun.

Do you know how I truly idolize you?
I think of you and my chest swells with pride,
because I know I couldn?t have picked a finer father,
I know I couldn?t ? even if I?d tried.

I appreciate having you close by to ask advice,
and for the record, you?re great to spend time with,
and this feels like the longest you?ve ever been away,
and now I?m struggling, I?m struggling to live.

Because I think of you practically ever hour,
and I hope you get over this real soon,
because Dad, to me, you?re my everything,
you?re my sky, my sun, my stars, my moon.

I remember when you came home and said you were born again,
and I think that rebirth made you a better man,
you seemed kinder, closer, you said ?I love you? more,
and spending time with us became your lifelong plan.

It also seemed to give you the courage to start the business,
it seems like Jesus lit up your path, your destiny,
well, that gave our family more time to be together,
you don?t know what that has meant to me.

You gave me the courage to follow in your steps,
and at the end of day, that?s the greatest gift of all,
as Dad, because of you I walk taller,
in fact, I feel like I?m ten feel tall!

You?re a fabulous grandfather and papa,
and I can?t wait until our baby meets you, face to face,
because I know Kenzie and Arlie love you so,
and you?ve made all our world?s a much better place.

You lead at home as well as in the business,
and that leadership has always brightly shone,
so just know that I love you very much,
and our great times together are not done and gone.

Because when you get out of that bed,
well, I?m going to take you fishing, once again,
and this time, you can lose the stringer of fish,
so please get better (so we can start planning when).

Comments:

Actually we ended up falling out over this one and I ended up giving Aaron a full refund. I wish him love and I hope his Dad makes a full recovery.
